Upper Dublin holds off Souderton

HATFIELD TWP. >> With Souderton Area coming on strong, cutting Upper Dublin’s 5-1 cushion down to a tenuous 5-4 lead, Oren Serafin came through yet again.

“That really helped us get back into the game,” Serafin said of his momentum-changing goal with 6 minutes, 6 seconds left in the game.

Serafin’s third-period tally completed a hat trick and completed the scoring all together, capping a 6-4 victory for the Cardinals over Big Red at Hatfield Ice Thursday night.

“Solid defense,” Serafin said of what allowed the Cards to hold off Souderton’s third-period rally.

Upper Dublin used its speed to get control of the contest, building a sizeable lead early.

“We were able to work around them,” Serafin said, “get to the net and get shots on goal.”

Fast Start

Upper Dublin built a 4-0 lead in the first.

D.J. Giammaruti scored a goal and assisted on another.

“(The fast start) was huge, to keep the momentum going,” Serafin said. “We got a big lead and they weren’t able to catch up.”

Almost

Anthony Lanzillotti and Christopher Lindsay III were key to the Big Red rally.

Each scored a goal to helped bring Big Red back to within 5-4. Serafin’s three goals came consecutively for Upper Dublin, including the final one with provided some insurance in the final minutes.

Moving Forward

Upper Dublin is not eligible for the playoffs this year but is aiming for a strong finish.

“We wanna keep winning,” Serafin said, “and finish with a winning record. We wanna build off of this.”
