Pennridge shuts down Central Bucks West

EAST ROCKHILL >> Christian Guldin was Pennridge’s stopper on Friday night.

“He did an excellent job on Mika Munari, who I think is an excellent basketball player. He’s really the engine of that team,” Rams coach Dean Behrens said after his team’s clash with Central Bucks West. “And Christian gave him everything he could handle.”

Guldin helped limit Munari to nine points, the Pennridge defense as a whole allowed just 12 field goals on the night, and the Rams locked down a 50-35 Suburban One League Continental Conference victory.

“Defense won that game,” Behrens said.

Collective Effort

The Rams took control from the start, in large part due to their defense.

Pennridge led 14-3 after one quarter.

“It’s a team defense. We did a great job of keeping him out of the paint,” Guldin said of Munari. “We knew if he spins, we had help. As much as it was me, it was great team defense too.”

Pennridge’s defense led to a rough shooting night for the Bucks.

The Rams took a 13-point lead into the break.

Balanced Offense

Pennridge got 12 points from Trent Fisher, 11 each from Guldin and Paul Croyle, and nine from Luke Yoder.

“Paul hit some big threes in the second half coming down as the trailer and that really sparked us, got us going,” Guldin said.

“He can shoot the three,” Behrens said. “And I love the fact that he had that pump fake in the paint and was able to finish.”

Big Win

The victory provides the Rams some nice momentum heading towards the holiday tournament at Boyertown.

“Great team win,” Guldin said. “Everyone stepped up, played together. Coach said that they’re a good team and this is our statement game.

“Coach believes in us, we believe in ourselves, and we came out ready to go.”
