Radnor’s Hamilton, Strath Haven’s Grace Smith qualify for PIAA golf championships
Delaware County will have two golfers in the PIAA championships next week at Heritage Hills Golf Resort in York.
Radnor’s Jack Hamilton and Strath Haven’s Grace Smith were the lone golfers to advance out of the East Regional tournament Monday at Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood.
Hamilton, a junior, carded a 3-over par 75 to finish in a nine-way tie for 14th place in the boys Class 3A tournament. The top 26 golfers in 3A advanced to the state championships. Hamilton recorded 11 pars and two birdies. He birdied No. 11 (par 5) and No. 13 (par 3) in advancing to states, which will be held Oct. 21-22.
Cardinal O’Hara senior Joseph Taggart shot a 12-over 84 to finish in a tie for 43rd. He is the first O’Hara golfer to qualify for the regional tourney.
Conestoga junior Morgan Lofland shot a 5-under par 67 to defeat Spring Grove junior Karl Frisk and Dallas sophomore Logan Paczewski.by one stroke.
Smith recorded an 8-over 80 to finish in a two-way tie for 12th place in the girls Class 3A tournament. The top 13 golfers qualified for the PIAA championship. Smith recorded 10 pars. She’s also part of the Strath Haven team that will be in the team competition next week.
Haverford’s Riley Quartermain missed advancing by two strokes. She carded a 10-over 82 to finish in a two-way tie for 18th place. Elizabeth Beek of Wissahickon fired a 6-under 66 to win the regional title.
