O’Hara’s Hickey shrugs off fever to spike Springfield
Regan Hickey has been sick all week, but the Cardinal O’Hara captain has not allowed the illness to keep her out of the lineup.
Hickey collected 11 kills, 10 digs, one block, one ace and one assist while playing under the weather to lead the Lions to a 3-0 nonleague volleyball victory over Springfield Wednesday.
“She is very valuable to us,” O’Hara coach Bill Collins said. “She’s always on the floor. She has played through it admirably.”
Siobhan Boylan added seven kills and three blocks. Emily Collins chipped in 21 digs and Bridget McGuinn pounded 10 kills for the Lions (15-1).
Emily Gowman (16 digs) and Ashley Dolan (10 assists) led Springfield.
In other nonleague action:
Haverford 3, Chichester 0 >> Claire Gerard’s five aces and eight kills paced the Fords to a 25-13, 25-14, 25-14 victory. Courtney Tintera chipped in with six aces.
Rustin 3, Ridley 0 >> Angela April collected 10 digs and nine kills as the Green Raiders fell, 25-14, 25-16, 25-18. Riley Finnegan led the defense with 15 digs. Anna Borcky had three kills and three blocks, while Abi Herrin finished with four blocks and three kills.
W.C. East 3, Radnor 1 >> Sam Worontzoff paced the Raiders with nine kills, five aces and seven digs. Patie Castro (nine aces, three blocks, three kills) and Josie Darrach (22 assists, 12 digs, three aces) also turned in solid performances.
Villa Maria 3, Garnet Valley 1 >> Sam Mann paced the GV attack with 12 kills and eight blocks. Mary Pearl Tienabeso added five kills and three blocks, while Maddie Wood had 30 assists, nine digs and one ace.
