Passing and possession carry Souderton past Archbishop Carroll
RADNOR >> Souderton picked up a non-league win with a 5-0 shutout over Archbishop Carroll Tuesday afternoon at Archbishop Carroll High School.
The defending state champion Indians wasted little time getting on the scoreboard.
In the eighth minute, Averie Doughty sent Taylor Yoder up the right side of the field. Yoder crossed to Hannah Alderfer, who tapped the ball into the back of the net at the far post.
Later in the first half Alderfer centered the ball Doughty, who powered it in for the score and doubled Souderton’s lead to 2-0.
“We’ve played together for a little while in club,” Alderfer said of herself and her junior classmates Doughty and Yoder. “The past three years we really connected together. We’ve grown to be really great friends on and off the field. I feel like that helps a lot with our passing.”
The Indians (2-0) put the game on ice right after halftime. Less than four minutes after intermission Alderfer found Leah Mowery for a 3-0 advantage.
Katie Padziorko added a goal later in the game on an assist from Ly Vu.
Vu scored the game’s final goal when a corner bounced around the box with 32 seconds remaining in the match.
The Patriots (0-2) managed just one shot on goal over 80 minutes, struggling to gain possession from Souderton.
“We’ve been really working on possession in practice a lot,” Alderfer said. “I think that’s really key in how we’ve been passing around and connecting with each other.”
Nicollette Cashin made 12 saves for Archbishop Carroll.
