Reporter Baseball Roundup: Hatboro-Horsham, PW earn wins, will meet for SOL American title
Benny Wilson allowed one run and struck out seven over six innings and also had a pair of hits Thursday as the Hatboro-Horsham baseball team topped Abington 10-3, setting up a contest with Plymouth Whitemarsh for the outright Suburban One League American Conference title.
The Hatters and PW, both 10-3 in conference play, meet at Hatboro-Horsham 3:45 p.m. Tuesday.
Lucas Walker collected three RBIs for the Hatters (13-5 overall), who scored the Thursday’s opening two runs in the top of the second then plated five in the third to go up 7-0.
Wilson was 2-for-4 while Anthony Bruno went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI as Hatboro-Horsham won its second straight.
Jordan Grimaldi, Angelo Pearson and Ryan Van Buren all hit doubles for Abington (4-3, 3-10).
Plymouth Whitemarsh 4, Upper Moreland 2 >> Drew Kliesch’s RBI double broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the fifth and Plymouth Whitemarsh added an insurance run in the sixth on Jesse Jaconski’s RBI double as the Colonials rallied past Upper Moreland to earn their chance to claim the SOL American title.
Jaconski scored a pair of runs for PW (10-5, 10-3 conference), who have won three of their last four.
Connor O’Donnell finished 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Upper Moreland (7-7, 6-6), which lost its third straight.
The Golden Bears took a 2-0 lead with two runs in the top of third but PW tied the game in the bottom of the inning with Jaconski scoring on a wild pitch and a Ben Mascio RBI sacrifice fly.
Colonials starting pitcher Brett Bottinger claimed the win, giving up two runs — none earned — on four hits in six innings. He walked two and struck out eight.
Neshaminy 4, Souderton 3 >> Souderton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first but Neshaminy scored the next four runs — breaking a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fourth — as the Redskins snapped the Indians’ eight-game win streak.
Cory Joyce gave Neshaminy a 3-2 lead in the fourth with his two-out RBI double then scored to make it 4-2 as Joe Kaleck reached on an error. Joyce finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored while Gus Natelli was 2-for-4 with a double for the ‘Skins (11-5, 7-4 SOL National), who ended a two-game skid by besting Big Red for the second time this season.
Moses Clemens hit a solo home run to right field to pull the Indians within 4-3 in the top of the fifth.
Souderton (15-3, 11-0 SOL Continental) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on as Conlan Wall scored on a Jacob Horton RBI fielder’s choice while Horton came on a Frank Pollock RBI single.
Neshaminy’s Max Temple earned the complete-game win, giving up three runs – all earned – on four hits, walked one and struck out three.
Lansdale Catholic 7, Methacton 6 >> Methacton led 4-0 after four innings but Lansdale Catholic tied the game in the top of the fifth, went up 7-4 in the sixth then held off the Warriors’ comeback try in the bottom of the seventh to claim the non-league victory.
Joe Montagna gave the Crusaders a 6-4 lead in the sixth with his two-RBI triple then scored to make it 7-4 on a Shane Stewart RBI double.
Methacton pulled to within 7-6 in the seventh on a Conor Smith RBI sacrifice fly and Ryan Sheridan’s two-out RBI single. But a ground out to the shortstop on the next at-bat sealed the LC win.
Stewart finished 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored while Matt Horenci scored twice for the Crusaders.
Sheridan went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Trevor Rambo was 2-for-4 with a run and Perry Corda had two runs scored for Methacton.
The Warriors scored twice in the first then added runs in the third and fourth to go ahead 4-0. But LC knotted things in the top of the fifth, bringing home its first two runs of the inning on an error with adding two more on RBI singles from Sean Duffy and Stewart.
North Penn 5, Central Bucks South 2 >> Joe Valenti threw a complete-game four-hitter and North Penn put an end to a three-game losing streak with an SOL Continental road win.
Kolby Barrow, Jake Drelick, Connor Ertel, Griffen Juckniewitz, Zack Miles, Jeff Sabater and Kyle Schulze all collected hits for the Knights (7-10, 5-6 conference).
