Reporter Girls Lacrosse Roundup: Abington edges Wissahickon, finishes perfect in SOL American
Abington goalkeeper Ellie Hughes denied a last-second 8-meter shot, one of 14 saves for the West Chester commit Wednesday as the Galloping Ghosts girls lacrosse team edged host Wissahickon 11-10 to complete a perfect run through the Suburban One League American Conference.
Abby Thomas scored four goals while Maddie Hinkle registered three goals and assists for Abington (15-2, 9-0 conference), which won its 10th straight.
Wissahickon’s Sam Intrieri, scored her 200th goal in the contest with the Towson commit finishing with five goals. The Trojans’ Abby Degroat and Emma Baker had eight and six draw controls, respectively.
Kaley Ehnow added two goals and an assist with Jamira Mashore collected two assists for the Ghosts.
Abington led 6-3 at halftime and was up 10-4 before Wissahickon scored sixth straight to pull even with 54 seconds remaining. After, the Ghosts retook the lead with 21 seconds left, the Trojans (12-5, 6-3) earned two 8-meter shots but could get the tying goal and had their three-game win streak snapped.
Upper Dublin 16, Quakertown 4 >> Julia Reardon finished with three goals and a pair of assists and Upper Dublin built a 13-3 lead at halftime in rolling to an SOL American victory.
Becky Browndorf and Jenn McCarry both had three goals and an assist for the Cardinals (11-6, 6-3) while Michelle Wright and Allie Rock each chipped in two goals. UD goalie Riley Brady made 11 saves.
Souderton 18, Cheltenham 1 >> Sophia Sclafani scored four goals, Riley McGowan finished with three goals and five assists and Souderton cruised to its second straight win.
Clark Trowbridge had three goals and an assist while Lauren Kenah collected two goals and three assists for the Indians (10-7, 6-3 SOL American), who led 12-0 at halftime. Big Red’s Caroline Kelly and Kylie Norbeck each added two goals.
Upper Merion 19, Jenkintown 8 >> Upper Merion’s Cat Merritt scored her 100th career goal as she found the back of net four times in the Vikings’ non-league victory.
Riley O’Malley paced UM with five goals and also handed out a pair of assists. Ashleigh Struckus scored three goals, Avalon Roberts had a two goals and an assist while Bella DiSanto finished with two goals. Vikings goalie Anya Waller made 12 saves.
