Main Line wrap-up: Haverford School tennis team captures 10th consecutive Inter-Ac title
The Haverford School tennis team captured its 10th consecutive Inter-Ac title with a 6-1 win against Springside Chestnut Hill Tuesday, winning all six matches in straight sets. The Fords won at first singles (Nikhil Chakraborty), third singles (Cole Wolf), first doubles (Thomas Ward/Aly Ba), second doubles (Adamya Aggarwal/Jared Hoefner), third doubles (Joaquin Arias/Aditya Sardesai) and fourth doubles (Lachie Alexander/Christian Crowder).

Boys’ lacrosse
Conestoga defeated Springfield, 10-7, Tuesday. The Pioneers received two goals each from Will Schnorr, Brendan Murphy, Joey Allen and Peter Detwiler. PJ Hewitt and Ian Kim combined to win 12 of 21 faceoffs.
The Pioneers defeated Lower Merion, 15-4, May 2, as Will Schnorr scored five goals. PJ Hewitt won 11 of 15 faceoffs, and Ian Kim won five of six faceoffs., Matt Chess (four saves) and Jack Henderson (won 11 of 18 faceoffs).
Episcopal Academy defeated St. Joseph Prep, 11-4, Tuesday, led by Charlie Cunniffe (two goals, four assists), Rowan Brumbaugh (three goals)
Harriton lost to Marple Newtown, 11-6, Tuesday. Michael Stewart scored two goals and collected four ground balls for the Rams, Evan Prince won 12 of 19 faceoffs and colected four ground balls, and Brian Stewart and Max Copley combined for nine ground balls. Robbie DePetris recorded 11 saves.
The Rams lost to Penncrest, 8-5, May 2. Leo Wackerman scored four goals for the Rams, Luke Fink recorded two caused turnovers and four ground balls and Robbie DePetris had eight saves.
Shipley (12-4, 4-1) defeated Westtown, 15-3, Tuesday in the Friends’ Schools League semifinals. Randall Brown and Luke Grayum each scored three goals and dished out two assists, while Henry Reed scored four goals. The Gators advanced to the FSL championship final May 11 at Academy of the New Church.
The Gators defeated Wissahickon, 12-10, May 4 in culmination of Shipley’s Alumni Weekend and 125th anniversary year. The Gators were led by Egan Butala (six takeaways, multiple ground balls), Randall Brown (came back from illness to score four goals), goalie Nate Yi (13 saves), Kyle Mezrow (came off bench to recorded four fourth-quarter saves), Luke Grayum (three goals, two assists) and Tyler Drake.
The Gators lost to Pennridge, 10-6, May 2. Nate Yi and Kyle Mezrow combined for 15 saves, and Luke Grayum scored two goals for Shipley.
Girls’ lacrosse
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Baldwin, 13-3, Tuesday. The Irish were led by Belle McHugh (six ground balls, three caused turnovers), Maggie O’Brien (two goals, four assists), Claire Gola (three goals) and Quinn Sullivan (six saves).
The Irish defeated Haddonfield, 13-8, May 4. The Irish were led by Mikayla Dever (three goals, three assists), Hanna Bodner (two goals, two assists, three caused turnovers). Maggie O’Brien (two goals, five draw controls) and Claire Gola (three goals, six draw controls, including her 200th career draw control).
On day earlier, the Irish defeated Penn Charter, 13-8. Mikayla Dever and Georgie Gorelick each scored four goals for Notre Dame. Claire Gola (three goals, five ground balls, nine draw controls, two caused turnovers) also significantly contributed to the win.
Agnes Irwin defeated Owen J Roberts, 12-10, Monday. The Owls were led by Emily Wills (four goals), Marissa White (three goals) and Natalie Pansini (two goals, six draw controls).
The Owls lost to St. Stephens St. Agnes, 13-9, May 4. Emily Wills and Marissa White each had hat tricks for Agnes Irwin.
AIS defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 18-11, May 3. Emily Wills and Natalie Pansini each scored four goals, and Pansini won nine draw controls. Paige Crowther recorded nine saves.
Archbishop Carroll defeated Cardinal O’Hara, 18-5, Tuesday, holding the Lions scoreless in the second half. Amber Germer scored five goals, Kellie Ann Matey and Kiley Mottice each recorded hat tricks, and goalie Julia Dellaratta made 13 saves.
The Patriots defeated Conwell Egan, 17-1, May 2. Sabrina Narda scored four goals, and Amber Germer, Madison Henry, Julia Downs and Johanna Arevelo each tallied two goals.
Baldwin School lost to Academy of Notre Dame, 16-11, May 1. The Polar Bears got four goals from Clara Page, and three goals and six draw controls from Sean Tuckman.
Conestoga defeated Lower Merion, 18-4, May 2. Eleven Pioneers scored at least one goal, and Rachel Clark tallied five goals.
Episcopal Academy defeated Springside Chestnut Hill, 14-6, Tuesday. Leaders for EA included Caroline Burt (six goals), Devon Whitaker (three goals, three draw controls), Izzy Rohr (five draw controls) and Olivia Dirks (four goals, 10 draw controls).
Harriton (15-1, 10-1) defeated Marple Newtown, 17-6, Tuesday on Senior Night to earn a share of the Central League title. Senior Lauren Binnion had a career-high four goals and added two assists while fellow senior Katelin WIlliams added five goals and one assist.
The Rams defeated Penncrest, 19-6, May 2. The Rams were led by senior tri-captains Allie Schwab (four goals, six assists), Katelin Williams (seven goals, one assist) and Emily Stewart (four goals, six draw controls, four ground balls, two caused turnovers).
Haverford High defeated Lower Merion, 19-6, Tuesday, as Mia Ciancio scored nine goals and won six draw controls. Willa Hetznecker had a hat trick and won five draw controls. Goalie Lauren Johns had 11 saves.
The Fords defeated Avon Grove, 16-15, May 4. The Fords’ offense was led by Mia Ciancio (four goals, five draw controls), Willa Hetznecker (four goals, four assists, five draw controls) and Carly Gannon (three goals, six draw controls).
Two days earlier, the Fords defeated Marple Newtown, 17-4, led by Mia Ciancio (five goals, seven ground balls), Carly Gannon (four goals) and Willa Hetznecker (four goals). Goalie Lauren Johns recorded six saves.
Villa Maria Academy defeated Downingtown East, 18-8, Tuesday. The Hurricanes (17-1, 14-0) were led by Abby Walheim (five goals), Margie Carden (four goals), Adele Iacobucci (three goals), Bridget Finley (two goals, seven assists) and goalie Kyla Branco (nine saves).
The Hurricanes defeated Merion Mercy, 21-3, May 2 on Senior Day. Margie Carden (four goals) scored her 100th career goal, setting a school record as the fastest to that milestone (less than two seasons). Abby Walheim scored two goals and dished out five assists, and both Sarah Delaney and Sophia Crossed had hat tricks. Kyla Branco recorded eight saves.
Baseball
Conestoga defeated Upper Darby, 6-0, Tuesday. Cam Marcus pitched six scoreless innings, giving up just two hits while striking out six. Marcus and Eric Anderson both had multi-hit games for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers defeated Haverford School, 13-6, May 4. Evan Harnish, Ian Shackleford, Alex Snyder, and Kyle Gartner each had multi RBI games for the Pioneers. Riley Deshetler also helped lead the way offensively for the Pioneers.
Devon Prep lost to LaSalle College, 16-12, Monday. Andrew Czachor, Jackson Jonik, Aaron Nuble, and Tommy Cunningham each racked up multiple hits for Devon. Czachor led Devon with four hits in four at bats.
The Tide defeated Episcopal Academy, 12-3, May 4. Andrew Czachor, Paul Grycewicz, Aaron Nuble, Anthony Deoria and Eamonn Walsh each managed multiple hits for Devon.
Friends’ Central defeated Delco Christian, 14-4, May 1. Freshman Dylan Posencheg was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and senior catcher Ben Kollender hit his sixth home run of the season. Freshman Luke Buscaglia threw four strong innings allowing only one hit and one earned run, and earned his second victory of the year.
Haverford School defeated Penn Charter, 12-9, Tuesday. Matt Mignucci’s leaping catch at the wall with bases loaded and two outs provided a dramatic ending. Joe Bonini (three hits, two RBIs) led the charge along with Jacob Stacey (three RBIs), while Eric Genther and Logan Keller both added two RBIs, and Pat Toal had a pair of hits. Ryan Reed earned the win in relief, striking out six batters in 4 2/3 innings, and Calvin Costner got the save, getting the last three outs with the bases loaded.
Lower Merion lost to Garnet Valley, 5-2, Monday. Casey Murphy went 2-for-4 with a double for the Aces, and teammate Spence Millrood went 2-for-4.
The Aces defeated Upper Darby, 8-1, May 2, as Kyle Patlove went 2-for-3 with three runs scored, Nick Rocco had three RBIs and Dylan Hurok had two RBIs. LM also defeated Upper Darby, 1-0, May 1, as Casey Murphy hurled his second consecutive shutout.
Softball
Academy of Notre Dame defeated Baldwin, 4-1, Tuesday. Grace Jackson threw a two-hitter, striking out nine batters.
Baldwin School defeated Germantown Academy, 14-2, May 3. Tessa Pearlstein pitched five shutout innings before giving up a two-run home run. Blake Landow set the tone offensively with five hits, followed by teammates Tessa Pearlstein, Maura Smith and Hanna Maier with multi-hit games.
Harriton defeated Marple Newtown, 12-4, May 2. Kira Farmer and Xochitl Krumbiegel hit home runs, and Jess Ermi had a double. The Rams also got fine pitching from Malayah Collie, and key defense from left fielder Ava Paternoster and second baseman Maddie Rubin.
The Rams defeated Radnor, 7-2, May 1. Julia Ermi went 4-for-4 with a double, Xochitl Krumbiegel hit a triple and Malayah Collie was the winning pitcher.
Boys’ tennis
Episcopal Academy defeated Malvern Prep, 7-0, Tuesday, winning all seven matches in straight sets. Singles winners were Justin Chen (first singles), Alec Austin (second) and Michael Gureghian (third).
The Churchmen edged Tower Hill, 3-2, May 1. At second singles, Daniel Hu won in straight sets, and EA swept the double matches in straight sets (Niki Lavu/Alec Austin at first doubles, Petey Dugery/Dhilan Lavu at second singles).
Haverford School lost to Germantown Friends, 3-2, May 1. The Fords got wins at first singles (Nikhil Chakraborty) and first doubles (Thomas Ward and Aly Ba).
Malvern Prep defeated Church Farm, 7-0, May 2. Dylan Tran, Sean Upadhyay, and Christian Siaton all won their singles matches.
Radnor defeated Upper Dublin, 3-2, Monday, in the District 1 team quarterfinals. Winners for Radnor were Max Safanov (first singles), Colton Markowitz and Chris Rinehart (first doubles) and Luigi Giacomucci and Ethan Lee (second doubles).
Shipley defeated Friends’ Central, 5-0, Tuesday, as their singles players of Samson Sands, Sebastian Fras and Max Homans lost a combined total of only one game. The Gators finished the regular season undefeated, earning home court for the FSL playoffs.
The Gators defeated Abington Friends, 5-0, May 3, as singles winners were Samson Sands, Sebastian Fras and Max Homans; and defeated Moorestown Friends, 5-1, May 2, as Samson Sands, Max Homans and Jamie Slater all won their singles matches in straight sets.
Track & field
Radnor (girls) had some strong performances at the Henderson Invitational May 3. Keara Seasholtz won the 800 meter run in 2:14.07, which is one of the fastest times in the state this season. Bridget Dougherty (5:37) and Lucy Hederick ran their fastest times of the season in the 1600 meter. Abigail Idiculla clocked a 2:32 800 meter.
At the Lower Merion Invitational on Saturday Zoe Metzger won the javelin with a throw of 106’1”. Metzger also finished sixth in the discus. Mab Rongione was second in the pole vault. Hunny Witthoeft ran her best ever time of 2:33.3 in the 800 meter run to place sixth.
Golf
Agnes Irwin defeated Baldwin School, 289-323, Tuesday on Senior Day at Gulph Mills Golf Club. Seniors Anne Curran (49) and Maura Boyle (56) led the Owls (4-4). Megan Adelman shot a 43 for Baldwin.
The Owls defeated Spingside Chestnut Hill, 246-260, May 2 at Sunnybrook Golf Club. For the Owls, Anne Curran shot 44, Maura Boyle 45 and Lilly Press 45.
