Penn Wood duo win Del Val title
Second-seeded John Kpanka and Chris Jones of Penn Wood defeated No. 1 Billy Jones and Nate Murray of Chichester 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 to capture the Del Val League doubles championship Monday at Academy Park.
Both the winners and runners-up advance to the District 1 doubles tournament at Legacy Tennis Center Friday, May 10.
The Patriots’ Joseph Tholley and Steven Siv were victorious over Academy Park’s Abdul Tholley and Charles Spor to claim third place.
Cardinal O’Hara 5, Springfield 0 >> Martin Meenan cruised 6-2, 6-0 at first singles for the Lions. Luke Pastore and Jack McCarry were victorious as well.
In doubles play, the No. 1 tandem of Owen Sheehan and Joe Taggert won 6-0, 6-0. Tim Eglinton and Mike Poissant earned a 6-1, 6-1 decision in the second match.
In nonleague matches:
Marple Newtown 6, Sun Valley 1 >> Jonathan Noble, Josh Noble and Connor Saunders cleaned house in singles action for the Tigers. Billy Mills and Zach Michalski, Cade Snyder and Kavanveer Singh, and Justin Reed and Jason Ehrlich were all victorious in double action.
Ryley Marker and Alex Benz were winners at No. 3 doubles for the Vanguards.
Radnor 6, Pennsbury 1 >> Garrett Spillerman cruised 6-0, 6-0 in the top singles match and Alex Weiss battled to a 7-5, 6-2 victory in the second slot for the Raiders.
In doubles action, Ethan Lee and Luigi Giacomucci were triumphant 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot.
