Hoop heroes: Presenting 2018-19 All-Main Line girls basketball teams

The 2018-19 Main Line high school girls’ basketball scene was highlighted by a good number of championships teams this past winter.
Archbishop Carroll (24-6) won both the Catholic League and PIAA District 12 5A title, then advanced all the way to the PIAA 5A state championship finals.
Shipley (22-4) captured the Friends’ School League tournament title and advanced to the PAISAA state championship finals.
Two Main Line AACA teams won district titles – Villa Maria Academy (26-5) captured the PIAA District 1 5A championship and Sacred Heart (17-9) captured its third consecutive PIAA District 1 2A championship.
Radnor (20-7) won three district playoff games and advanced to the state tournament. Other strong Main Line teams included Academy of Notre Dame (17-7), Friends’ Central (15-10), Harriton (14-10) and Haverford (17-9).
The All-Main Line high school girls’ basketball teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of sports available to first team, second team and honorable mention – but follows the priority of the coaches’ selections.
What follows are the 2018-19 All-Main Line high school girls’ basketball teams:

FIRST TEAM
Mandy McGurk, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior guard was Inter-Ac MVP runnerup and received the Markward MVP of Inter-Ac award. The McDonald’s All-American nominee averaged 18.2 ppg, shot 48 percent from the field and 34 percent from 3-poinr range. An all-around player, she also averaged 2.7 rpg, 2.4 spg and 2.4 apg.
Maggie Pina, Academy of Notre Dame – Like McGurk, senior guard was both a McDonald’s All-American nominee and a career 1,000 point scorer. A first team All-Inter-Ac selection, she averaged 15.8 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 2.0 apg and 1.9 spg. Shot 50 percent from field, 42 percent from 3-point territory and 77 percent from the free throw line.
Erin Sweeney, Archbishop Carroll – Junior guard, a first team All-Catholic League selection, was a vital part of the Patriots’ drive to the top this winter, averaging 20 points per game and pulling down five rebounds per contest.
Harlem Jennings, Archbishop Carroll – Talented senior guard helped Carroll in many ways during its drive to the Catholic League title and District 12 5A championship, and the PIAA 5A state final. Averaged four rebounds per game, and nine ppg.
Grace O’Neil, Archbishop Carroll – Promising freshman guard’s all-around abilities on both ends of the court was key to the Patriots’ success, as she averaged two steals per game, four boards per contest and 9 ppg.
Raanee Smith, Friends’ Central – Senior 6-foot-2 forward was first team All-Friends School League selection and Phoenix’s MVP, averaging 14.3 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 3.0 bpg. Will play basketball at University of Colorado in the fall.
Madison Smith, Friends’ Central – Freshman forward played a big role in the Phoenix’s success this fall, averaging 14.8 ppg and 11.9 rpg. Noted for her passion, enthusiasm, work ethic and contributions on both ends of the floor, particularly on the glass.
Christina Brown, Harriton – Senior guard, a first team All-Central League selection, was an all-around performer, averaging 16.8 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 2.7 apg. Became a 1,000 point career scorer.
Erin Doherty, Haverford – Senior 5-foot-8 guard, a two-time first team All-Central League selection, averaged 11.8 ppg, 4.8 rpg and 2.8 spg. A Catholic University basketball commit, she hit 38 treys on the season.
Ellie Mueller, Radnor – Junior 5-foot-9 forward, a first team All-Central League pick, averaged 17.0 ppg and 9.8 rpg, becoming the first Radnor girl to reach the career 1,000 point milestone in her junior year.
Kyra Quigley, Sacred Heart – Senior 6-footer was MVP of the District 1 2A champions, providing a strong inside presence and averaging 14.5 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 2.7 apg and 3.1 bpg.
Anna Camden, Shipley – Senior forward, a first team All-Friends School League selection, is the Shipley girls’ all-time leading career scorer with 1,535 points. Averaged 17.0 ppg, 8.0 rpg and 2.0 bpg. Will play basketball for Penn State.
Lauren Ross, Shipley – Senior point guard, a first team All-Friends Schools League selection and career 1,000 point scorer, had wide range of skills, averaging 12.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.8 spg and 4.7 apg.
Sanaa Redmond, Shipley – Sophomore guard, a first team All-Friends Schools League selection, was a fine all-around player, averaging 15.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg and 2.2 apg for the PAISAA state finalists.
Abby Walheim, Villa Maria Academy – Senior co-captain became the Hurricanes’ all-time scorer, finishing with 1,318 career points, and for the 2018-19 season averaged 16.4 points per game, 5.9 rebounds per contest and 3.1 steals per game. A Villanova University lacrosse commit, she helped the Hurricanes win their first PIAA state lacrosse title last spring.
Paige Lauder, Villa Maria Academy – Junior forward, a career 1,000 point scorer and like Abby Walheim a first team All-AACA selection, averaged 12.7 ppg, 8.1 rpg and 1.1 bpg for the PIAA District 1 5A champions.

SECOND TEAM
Academy of Notre Dame – Maeve McErlane, freshman guard/forward.
Agnes Irwin – Katie Anderson, junior point guard.
Baldwin School – Anajah Brown, sophomore forward.
Barrack Hebrew Academy – Alexi Schachter, sophomore forward; Dayna Felger, freshman point guard.
Episcopal Academy – Olivia Dirks, senior guard; Raeleen Keffer-Scharpf, junior forward.
Harriton – Annie Aspesi, freshman guard; Maretta Smith, freshman guard.
Haverford – Lindsey Lane, senior forward; Sara Walsh, senior forward.
Radnor – Brienne Williams, sophomore guard.
Villa Maria Academy – Maddy Ryan, junior forward.

HONORABLE MENTION
Academy of Notre Dame – Allie Lynch, junior guard.
