Five Baldwin School student-athletes commit to colleges
Bryn Mawr >> Five student-athletes from Baldwin School’s Class of 2019 took part in a special spring college commitment ceremony April 8 at the Athletic Center Multipurpose Room. The group announced their decisions and celebrated their commitments in front of over 100 family members, classmates, coaches, faculty and staff.
Meg Glascott-Birch, Baldwin’s Director of Athletics, said, “Baldwin is so proud of these five talented seniors for their loyalty to the school and commitment to the athletics program. They will be remembered for their leadership, strong character and competitive spirit. These well-rounded student-athletes are prepared for the college level and will make a positive impact inside and outside the classroom.”
The following student-athletes committed:
– Lauren Bracken, Dickinson College, soccer. Bracken, who was a first team All-Inter-Ac and All-Main Line soccer selection last fall as well as soccer team MVP, is a three-sport athlete (soccer, basketball, lacrosse) and is head of Baldwin’s Athletic Association for the 2018-19 school year.
– McCaleigh Marr, University of Pennsylvania, gymnastics. In 2019, she was a Level 10 Regional Qualifier, and at States (Del.) was fifth in AA and fourth in Bars. Last week in Virgina Brach at Regional Championships she placed fifth for all around and fourth on bars and third on beam.
Her performance qualified her for USA Gymnastics National Championships which will be held in Indianapolis May 17-19.
– Celia Page, Haverford College, soccer. In her senior year, she was captain of Baldwin’s soccer team, and received second team All-Main Line honors for the second year in a row. In 2018, she was part of Baldwin’s 4×800 indoor relay team that earned all-state honors. In 2019, she received Baldwin’s Margot Cunningham Sports Commitment Award (for playing a sport every season for all four years of Upper School)
– Alexis Shatzman, Cornell University, squash. In 2019, she was first team All-Inter-Ac and first team All-MASA for squash, as well as squash team MVP. She was captain of both the Baldwin squash and tennis team.
– Cartier Thomas, Cabrini University, volleyball. Last fall, she was the volleyball MVP and captain, and received first team All-Inter-Ac and first team All-Main Line honors for volleyball.
Baldwin’s Class of 2019 now has a total of eight student-athletes committed to play a sport at the college level. Relly Ladner ‘19 (Dartmouth College soccer), Natalie Sgro ‘19 (College of Charleston soccer) and Gia Vicari ‘19 (Georgetown University soccer) committed during the fall signing period in November.
