Delco Baseball Roundup: Sun Valley arms work extra to outlast Rustin

It was all hands on deck for the Sun Valley pitching staff Wednesday.

Five hurlers combined to allow only two earned runs in an 8-6 victory in nine innings over Ches-Mont League foe West Chester Rustin.

Colin Porter earned the win with two scoreless frames and three Ks. Porter was preceded on the mount by Joey Greco, Ryan Kester, Jack Youhouse and Vinny DeAngelo.

After the Vanguards scored Youhouse on a Rustin error in the top of the ninth, Porter added an RBI single to make it 8-6.

Camren Johnston was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, and Dom Valente added a double, two walks and an RBI for the Vanguards. Porter finished 2-for-4 with a pair of ribbies.

In Catholic League:

Archbishop Carroll 2, Neumann-Goretti 0 >> Jack Tulskie’s RBI double in the top of the seventh snapped a scoreless tie. Tyler Kehoe was virtually unhittable, pitching a two-hit shutout with eight punchouts.

Bonner & Prendergast 9, Conwell-Egan 2 >> Stephen DiBattista struck out a career-high 10 over six innings as the Friars (5-0, 4-0) gained sole possession of first place. Matt Shepherd and John DeMucci led the hitting attack with two base knocks each.

In the Central League:

Springfield 8, Ridley 7 >> Freshman Matt Grapin delivered the walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth, lifting the Cougars to their first win.

A.J. Grande singled, doubled and drove in four runs. Casey Vaughn added a two hits and one RBI. Ryan Hobb gave up three hits and no earned runs in five innings of relief to earn the win.

Trent Pierce was 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs in the losing effort. John Lockhart also drove in a pair of runs.

Strath Haven 3, Upper Darby 1 >> Noah Atsaves went all seven innings, scattering six hits and three walks while striking out seven. Koll Peichel set the tone at the top of the Haven lineup with three singles and a run scored.

Pat McCloskey went 2-for-3 and Max Peters had a single and a walk for the Royals.

Penncrest 8, Lower Merion 4 >> The Lions did all of their scoring in the first three innings. Danny McLaughlin homered, and Kevin Bittle and Dylan Bittle both smacked a triple.

Marple Newtown 12, Conestoga 0 >> Andrew Cantwell went the distance on the mound and was 3-for-3 with a double and four ribbies for the Tigers (5-2, 3-2). Alden Mathes was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

Garnet Valley 8, Radnor 4 >> Nick Weisendanger tossed 6 2/3 innings with nine punchouts for the Jags. Cole Palis had a single and three RBIs.

George Hoysgaard homered for the second time in as many games for the Raiders.

Harriton 9, Haverford 4 >> Nick Sammartino paced the Fords with three hits, a run scored and an RBI.
