Pennridge wins showdown with Central Bucks West
DOYLESTOWN >> Whether it’s running or hurdling, throwing or jumping or vaulting, Pennridge has it covered.
“We have a lot of ‘good,’” said Diego Lera-Lozano, winner of the 3,200-meter run. “Everything on the team is good. All of the components really work together.”
Pennridge put on another impressive performance on Tuesday, taking on one of its fiercest rivals and coming away with a pivotal, 111-39 conference victory.
The Rams swept the relays and pushed themselves to several other victories throughout the lineup.
“West is always a formidable opponent. That’s for sure,” said Rams coach Bob Hosier, who has his team off to a 3-0 start as they aim for a fifth straight conference crown. “We look forward to facing them and we worry a lot about them because they’re good. Their track record for the last few years has been impeccable.
“In the (Suburban One League) Continental (Conference), every meet is a test.”
Pennridge showed its strength in the sprints behind the efforts of Andersen Dimon. The Rams also took the 1,600 and 3,200 to power through the distance.
“They’re the team to beat in Pennsylvania,” Bucks coach Greg Wetzel said. “They’re a great team and they work hard. They have talented athletes and they have it all going in the right direction.”
CB West, meanwhile, notched more district-qualifying marks and showed its balance throughout.
“Our guys ran pretty well today and gave them some pretty good competition,” Wetzel said. “We’re excited about the direction our team is going in as well.”
The Bucks’ Kevin Guevara again threw 50 feet in the shot put to place first, following up his Thursday night victory at the Knights Invitational.
“It’s a good statement to still come up with the win, with the pressure on,” Wetzel said.
Both teams are in action again Friday, when the Bucks and Rams travel to the Explorers Invite at La Salle. Pennridge then travels to Central Bucks South Tuesday and CB West hosts a tri-meet with Souderton Area and Central Bucks East that same afternoon.
