Kane, Sun Valley walk it off against Strath Haven
Kylie Kane’s walk-off single in the bottom of the eighth inning lifted Sun Valley to a 5-4 victory over Strath Haven in nonleague softball action Tuesday.
Kane’s game-winning knock scored Grace Keeley, who added two hits for the Vanguards. Kane led the Sun Valley bats with three knocks and Alayna Lloyd chipped in with two hits and two RBIs.
Gianna Poore had a pinch-hit, RBI double, and winning pitcher Brianna Lawson struck out 10.
For Strath Haven, Audrey Kochanowicz had a double and two runs scored and Hazel Kane went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
In other nonleague games:
Bonner & Prendergast 6, Knox (Tenn.) 5 >> Meghan McNulty delivered the walk-off RBI single in the seventh to give the Pandas the victory down in Myrtle Beach. Mia Falcone had an RBI triple to tie things up in the seventh. Sam Lachette was the winning pitcher.
In the Del Val League:
Chichester 8, Academy Park 0 >> Rose Rybak threw her first career no-hitter and smacked a three-run double to lead the Eagles past the Knights. Rybak recorded six strikeouts from the circle.
Ava Franz homered for Eagles in their Del Val League opener.
Penn Wood 5, Interboro 3 >> The Patriots beat the Bucs for the first time in Dan McBride’s nine years as head coach. The losing drought dates at least 20 years, according to Daily Times records.
Thanks to Ameenah and Zaikiah Ballenger, the Patriots own bragging rights over the Bucs … for now. Ameenah pitched a complete game with 10 strikeouts and allowed only five hits and one earned run. Zaikiah paced the offense with a clutch two-run double.
In the Inter-Ac League:
Episcopal Academy 6, Baldwin 1 >> Senior Grace Smith blasted a two-run homer, and sophomore Emma Tansky pitched a complete game with 12 strikeouts to lead the Churchwomen to victory in their league opener.
In the Bicentennial League:
Christian Academy 17, Plumstead Christian 4 >> Alyssa Mastella picked up the win from the circle and helped her cause with two hits, a walk, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Grace Gormley belted three hits, including two doubles, and scored three runs to go with two RBIs. Oksana Specht slammed a bases-clearing triple and Bukki Omole contributed two RBIs and two runs scored for the Crusaders.
