Sacred Heart back in district title game
A 12-day layoff didn’t bother Kyra Quigley and Sacred Heart Thursday.
Quigley scored 16 of her 18 points in the first half to propel the top-seeded Lions to a 57-27 romp over fourth-seeded Bristol in the semifinal round of the girls District 1 Class 2A tournament.
It was Sacred Heart’s first game since it beat Strath Haven in its regular-season finale and the Lions wasted no time qualifying for the district final for the third year in a row. Sacred Heart opened up a 14-8 lead in the first quarter and turned up the defensive pressure to take a 33-9 advantage in the locker room at halftime after holding the Warriors to one point in the second quarter.
Backup center Carina Fichera came up big for the Lions. She scored eight of her career-high 10 points in the second half. Kayleigh Doyle pitched in with eight points and Liz Franz added seven.
Sacred Heart goes for its third straight District 1 Class 2A title and a berth in the PIAA tournament when it takes on second-seeded Dock Mennonite Saturday at Harriton High School (1:30). The Pioneers downed third-seeded Delco Christian, 46-26, to advance to the championship game.
Only the district champion advances to the PIAA tournament.
