Agnes Irwin wins back-to-back Inter-Ac squash titles
Rosemont – The Agnes Irwin varsity squash team defeated Penn Charter, 6-3, Jan. 16 to clinch its second consecutive Inter-Ac title. The victory for the Owls (5-0) stretched their undefeated mark in league play to 8-0 over the past two seasons.
Depth on the ladder was critical in Agnes Irwin’s success. Agnes Irwin’s No. 1, junior Katherine Glaser, was injured, causing the full ladder to move up one position. The Owls won matches 4-9 by identical scores of 3-0.
Agnes Irwin senior captain Caroline Glaser said, “It’s exciting to see how far our team has come since my freshman year. It’s rewarding to win the Inter-Ac, but we want to improving and keep our feet on the gas pedal. We’re looking forward to nationals in February, and we want to keep pushing and improving so we can do well there.”
Agnes Irwin head coach Alex Stait said, “To win our second Inter-Ac in a row was our main goal of the season. I am so proud of the girls and happy for them for their success. They have trained extremely hard for a long time and it is nice to see that work being rewarded.
“I especially want to congratulate our senior captains Emily Coyne, Caroline Glaser and Isabella Schneider. They have helped set a great culture in our team of working hard, playing the game in the right way, and being a great teammate. For us, those three areas are our top priorities and to win the Inter-Ac title is truly icing on the cake.”
