Perfect La Salle has little trouble with Calvert Hall
PHILADELPHIA >> In the fourth game of the Pete and Jameer Nelson Classic at Chestnut Hill College, the La Salle Explorers crushed Calvert Hall (Md.) 66-45 to stay undefeated Friday night.
The Explorers got a big 16-7 lead in the first quarter and never looked back to earn their ninth straight win to start the season.
Senior Allen Powell scored 13 points in the win for the Explorers, only second behind Titus Beard’s 18 points.
“The mindset was just to get out there and play hard,” said Powell. “We have a lot of seniors on this team and we don’t want to lose because we want to be a championship team.”
The Explorers outscored Calvert Hall in every quarter including 19-9 in the third quarter.
La Salle College head coach Mike McKee was thrilled with his team’s performance during Christmas break.
“Sharing the ball has always been important to us and today they did that very well,” said McKee. “We always want to do well defensively too and we did that keeping us in front of Calvert Hall and make them work for their shots.”
With the win, the Explorers continue their hot start of 9-0 with one game to go in the 2018 portion of the season.
“We just take it one game at a time,” said McKee. “I think we have a good talented senior group. They had a great preseason and now we are just taking one game at a time.”
Nine different Explorers contributed to the scoring for La Salle on the way to the blowout victory.
Leading the way for Calvert Hall was Shein Allan, who had 14 points in the loss.
La Salle finish the 2018 portion of the season at the Arcadia Holiday Hoops Showcase against Cheltenham Sunday.
