Bishop McDevitt makes quick work of Pennsbury
PHILADELPHIA >> In game five of the Pete and Jameer Nelson Classic, the Bishop McDevitt Lancers used a big first quarter to beat Pennsbury 70-50 Friday night at Chestnut Hill College.
The Lancers scored often and early to outscore Pennsbury 21-12 after the first quarter.
Highlighting the victory for Bishop McDevitt was Robert Smith, who scored a game-high 19 points.
“We just want to keep winning,” said Smith. “The team and I came ready to play against a good Pennsbury team and continue our hot start.”
“What makes us so dominant is having the heart to compete” added Smith. “We just have to keep that in mind and go out there and do what we do to win.”
With the win, the Lancers continue their hot start improving to 8-0 with one game left in 2018.
Bishop McDevitt head coach Will Chavis was thrilled with how his team stayed undefeated in the young season.
“We knew that Pennsbury was a very disciplined team,” said Chavis. “So we tried to stay disciplined against their offensive moves.”
“We try not to focus too much on our record. We just want to go out and play the best game that we can play.”
“I think we came up a little slow defensively in the first half,” added Chavis. “But then we really turned up the intensity on both sides of the ball to get the win in the fourth quarter.”
The Lancers won each of the four quarters including a close third quarter 16-15 after the Pennsbury offense stepped up from the first half.
With the loss, Pennsbury drops to 3-5 to conclude the 2018 portion of the season.
