Strath Haven girls’ DMR sets record, top time in nation at Lehigh

Strath Haven started the indoor track season fast Friday night. For the distance medley relay, it could scarcely have been any quicker.

The DMR foursome of Abby Loiselle, Olivia Malley, Maggie Forbes and Grace Forbes not only won gold at the first Delaware Valley Girls Track and Field Coaches Association meet at Lehigh University. It set a meet record and logged the No. 1 time in the nation, per milesplit.com, by breaking the tape in 12 minutes, 2.10 seconds.

Grace Forbes, the 2018 Daily Times Female Cross Country Runner of the Year, set a school record with a 4:51.3 split on the 1,600-meter anchor leg. Notre Dame was a distant but still fast second in 12:39.11.

The Forbeses joined Malley and Hallie Jackson to take second in the 4 x 400 relay. Angela Campanella was second in the 300-meter dash.

Garnet Valley’s Grace Zamrowski won the 400-meter dash. Elicia Moore of Penn Wood was first in the 1,000, with Notre Dame’s Cara Stevenson (third), Haverford’s Camilla Abruzzo (fourth) and Garnet Valley’s Ashley Lustgarten (fifth) trailing. Kayla Thorpe of Upper Darby won the shot put, and Chester’s Jiya Clayton was second in the 600 meters.

Boys Track

Penn Wood hauled home three golds from the first Track and Field Coaches Association of Greater Philadelphia meet at Lehigh Saturday.

Timmy Odunjo won the Division I 400-yard dash, and Tavon Williams claimed the long jump to go with a 4 x 800 relay triumph.

Sean Garrett of Garnet Valley was second in the 3,000 meters, and teammate Chris Rudawsky claimed third in the mile. Malachi Langley of Chester was fourth in the 800.

In Division II, Haverford School showed its middle-distance prowess with Daiyaan Hawkins winning the 200 and Dan Whaley taking the 400. Petey Lemmon added silver in the shot put.

Penncrest’s Collin Tate won the 60-yard dash, and Josiah Bronkema of Delco Christian claimed the high jump.

Peter Lim of Episcopal Academy earned second in the pole vault. Radnor’s David Callaway edged out Strath Haven’s Jason Stone to second in the long jump, and Haven’s Michael Fergus took third in the triple jump.

Springfield won the 4 x 800 relay with Penncrest in third. Episcopal won the 4 x 200 a spot ahead of Strath Haven. And Radnor nipped Penncrest to second in the DMR.

At the Bishop Loughlin Games:

Aiden Tomov took home second place in the 1,000 meters, and the Haverford 4 x 800 relay secured gold in 8:19.68 to make it a fruitful trip to Staten Island.

Curtis Wey finished sixth in the long jump, the same spot that Chasen Wint earned in the shot put (with Bonner & Prendergast’s Chilekasi Adele 14th).

Brendan Campbell was eighth in in the mile with Josh Fingerhut 10th, and Cole Gillespie took 8th in the triple jump with Michael Moffett 11th.
