Chester is fine at line in win over Southern
There was a lot of fouling going on in Chester’s game with South Philadelphia High School Friday. That suited the Clippers just fine.
Chester converted 37 of its 49 trips to the line to win an 87-47 nonleague decision Friday night.
Michael Smith led all scorers with 18 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe. Karell Watkins added 13 points with a 7-for-8 day at the line, and Fareed Burton was 9-for-10 from the line for nine points. Rahmee Gilbert added 11 points, and Akeem Taylor had 10 for the Clippers (2-2).
In other nonleague action:
Bonner & Prendergast 91, West Philadelphia 47 >> Isaiah Wong played the distributor Friday with 17 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, and Chris Haynes went off for 16 points as the Friars offense romped.
Tyreese Watson added 14 points, Tariq Ingraham had a double-double of 13 points and 10 boards and Malik Edwards added 11 points for the Friars (3-0).
Chester Charter School for the Arts 54, Christian Academy 48 >> Jamihy Evans scored 20 points, and Tyler Howard was a defensive menace with six points, nine rebounds and seven blocks for the Sabers (3-2). Amir Baez added 11 points, and Donte Stovall had nine.
Sam Geathers, Grant Sareyka and Jourdan Greene scored 11 points each for the shorthanded Crusaders (1-3). Sareyka chipped in seven rebounds and five assists.
Cardinal O’Hara 94, Maritime Charter 34 >> Tre Dinkins scored 16 points, Adrian Irving added 15 points and Sean Hutchinson and Solo Bambarra added 13 apiece.
Penn Wood 67, Simon Gratz 50 >> Desman Johnson’s 10 second-half points and a dogged defensive effort spurred the Patriots to run away with the win in the second half. Antonio Campbell led the way with 16 points, and Zac-Chae’us Williams added nine points for the Patriots (2-0).
Glen Mills 60, Central 45 >> Aaron Thompson scored 20 points, and DeAndre Wright added 10 as the Battlin’ Bulls (1-3) got their first win.
At the Mercer Invitational Tournament:
Knox School 56, Episcopal Academy 52 >> Matt Dade led all scorers with 22 points, and Alex Capitano chipped in 17 points as the Churchmen’s fate was sealed with a 19-9 deficit in the third quarter. EA falls into the consolation bracket Saturday.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Sun Valley 67, W.C. Rustin 49 >> Vinny DeAngelo went off for 36 points, and Dom Valente added a career-best 12 points as the Vanguards (4-0, 1-0) landed a huge opening salvo in league play late Thursday. Isaac Kennon added nine points.
