Reporter Field Hockey Roundup: Kenah, Hess lead Souderton past North Penn
Courtney Kenah collected both of her goals in the second half as the Souderton field hockey team scored three times after the break to pull away from North Penn for a 4-1 Suburban One League Continental Conference win Wednesday in a game called with 13:11 remaining due to weather.
Randi Hess also scored twice for the Indians (9-1-0, 6-1-0 conference), her second tally breaking a 1-1 tie at 26:33 in the second half as Big Red won their fifth straight.
Eleni Kountroubis had the lone goal for North Penn (3-7-0, 2-5-0), leveling the contest at one at 5:52 in the first half off a Kristin Varilla assist.
Mallory Stowell made 11 saves for the Knights, who have lost four in a row. Souderton’s Jordan Michalak stopped two shots.
Plymouth Whitemarsh 4, Wissahickon 1 >> Sam Spera scored on a penalty corner in the second half to put Plymouth Whitemarsh up 2-1 and from there Kaleigh Missimer tacked on two goals as the Colonials stayed undefeated in the SOL American.
Megan Reilly made 25 saves for Wissahickon (4-4-0, 3-4-0 conference), which took a 1-0 lead at 27:07 in the first half on a Steph Scoma goal assisted by Kendal Williams. The loss ended the Trojans’ three-game win streak.
Spera and Kayla Link both finished with a goal and an assist while Hailey Copestick added an assist for PW (10-1-0, 8-0-0), which won its second straight.
Springfield-Montco 1, Abington 0 >> Anya Kochanowicz tallied the SOL American contest’s only goal with 2:05 left in regulation off assists from Charlotte DeKerillis and Kate Wojeck as Springfield stretched its unbeaten streak to seven (6-0-1).
Goalkeeper Rebecca Berglund made four saves for the Spartans (7-2-1, 5-2-1 conference). With the loss, Abington falls to 6-4-0 (6-2-0).
Upper Dublin 2, Hatboro-Horsham 0 >> Ryann Kullman had a goal and an assist as Upper Dublin scored its both of its goals in the first half and earned its third straight shutout.
Lauren Greene tallied the Cardinals’ first goal at 22:31 with Kullman getting the assist. Kullman found the back of the cage at 3:10 off an Allie Rock assist as UD improved to (5-3-1, 4-3-1 SOL American).
Abby Ransom made 10 saves for Hatboro-Horsham (1-7-0, 1-6-0) while Meghan Muth had four saves for the Cards.
Lawrenceville School 2, Germantown Academy 1 >> Sophie Towne registered Germantown Academy’s goal with Sammy Popper earning the assist as the non-league loss dropped the Patriots to 3-2-1 (1-0-1 Inter-Ac).
