Geurin, ND open Inter-Ac play with a sweep
Gracie Guerin turned in a solid all-around game as Notre Dame opened defense of its Inter-Ac League volleyball title with a 3-0 victory over Baldwin School.
Guerin posted eight kills, five blocks and four aces in the 25-13, 25-10, 25-17 victory. Maddie Donaphon and Ciara Gibbs combined for 16 digs, while Lexi Shreinemer started the second set for the Irish (4-1) with 13 straight points from the service line.
Agnes Irwin 3, Germantown Academy 2 >> Caitlyn Yoh was on the service line for the final four points in the fifth set to complete a 15-25, 17-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-13 come-from-behind victory.
Lauren Karlson led the offense with 28 assists. Mara Zwilling (13 kills), Avery Selbert (six blocks) and Colby Yoh (six blocks) were strong at the net, while Jenna Zwilling (25 digs) paced the defense.
In nonleague action:
Sun Valley 3, Strath Haven 2 >> Hanna Vickers pounded 14 kills, registered 15 digs and handed out 18 assists in the 25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 25-13 victory for the Vanguards (8-1). Rachel DiCarlo (22 digs) and Christin Guenther (eight kills, 10 assists, three blocks) also came up big for Sun Valley.
Hailey Blum paced the Panthers with 18 assists, 19 digs and two aces. Megan Prendergast contributed 21 digs and two aces, while Gabby McGinn had 18 digs and nine kills.
Sacred Heart 3, Haverford High 2 >> The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the fifth set to pull out the 25-16, 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-8 come-from-behind victory.
Jaycee Webster led the way with 26 kills and 15 digs. Erin Corcoran pitched in with 11 kills, five aces and 16 digs. Hannah Martinson added seven kills, 30 assists and 10 digs, while Gianna Anthony paced the defense with 20 digs.
Archbishop Carroll 3, Radnor 0 >> Grayce Henderson collected five kills and two aces as the Raiders fell, 25-16, 25-18, 25-13). Erica DiCarlo (10 digs, eight assists) and Sammy Scannapieco (18 digs) also had solid games for Radnor.
No details were reported for Carroll.
Ridley 3, Interboro 0 >> Shannon Glacken had a strong game with seven aces and 14 assists. Melanie June led the defense with 11 digs, while Angela April (11 kills, four aces) and Abi Harrin (nine kills) paced the attack in the 25-7, 25-15, 25-3 win.
