Reporter Girls Volleyball Roundup: North Penn rallies to beat Abington in 5
Trailing two sets to one to visiting Abington Wednesday night, the North Penn girls volleyball team won the next two sets to rally past the Galloping Ghosts for a 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 13-25, 25-21, 16-14) Suburban One League American Conference victory.
Senior libero Francesca Dolan made 20 digs while senior defensive specialist Diana Pissut led the Knights in passing with a 2.15 average. Senior setter Emily Cooper had 10 assists and seven kills and junior outside hitter Natalie Wernley collected 10 kills.
“Both teams played with heart and energy. Abington is well coached and has a very good team,” North Penn coach Scott Coles said. “We were able to feed off the energy of an amazing crowd and our defense stepped up to a big challenge against a very good Abington offense. I am so proud of our team growing this early in the season and finding a way to win.”
Plymouth Whitemarsh 3, Pennridge 0 >> Aja Smith had 17 digs, seven kills, and an ace, Sydney Melillo dished out 14 assists and PW picked up a SOL American win by sweeping Pennridge 25-15, 25-22, 25-13.
Sophia Repholz finished with 19 digs and an ace while Gillian Conner and Megan Peuser both put down five kills for the Colonials.
Central Bucks West 3, Bensalem 0 >> Maggie McCusker collected 18 assists, five digs and five aces as CB West swept Bensalem 25-7, 25-16, 25-5 for a SOL National Conference win.
Naomi Wood finished with seven kills and a block for the Bucks. Maggie Winderman added five aces and three digs.
Archbishop Wood 3, Germantown Academy 1 >> Germantown Academy avoided the sweep, but Archbishop Wood sealed the non-league victory by taking the fourth set to beat the Patriots 25-23, 25-19, 25-27, 25-17.
Natalie Schildt had 34 kills, two digs, a block and an ace for GA while Shannon Topley finished with 41 assists and three digs.
