Mercury roundup: Perk Valley field hockey drops Kennett 8-2
The Perkiomen Valley field hockey team continued its torrid start through non-conference play with an 8-2 win over Kennett Tuesday afternoon.
The Vikings (2-0 overall) erupted with five goals in the second half, right on the heels of last Friday night’s 7-2 win over Pennridge to start the season.
Gabby Martina and Julia Downing each finished up with a pair of goals Tuesday while Kelly Battinger, Danielle Hamm and Katie Wuerstle each finished with a goal and an assist. Emma Haas rounded out the scoring with a solo tally while Ashley Derrick made four saves in the cage.
Emma Schwartz scored for Kennett and also added an assist on Ainsley Albert’s goal while Claire Borman made 17 saves in the cage.
Pottstown 1, Kutztown 0 >> Destri Roye scored the game’s lone goal, lifting the Trojans over the Cougars in non-league play.
Lillian Stirk had a three-save day in goal for Pottstown, which took 10 corners during the game to Kutztown’s three.
Pottsgrove 5, Muhlenberg 0 >> Justine Fretz scored a pair of goals while Amanda Stone made four saves in the cage as the Falcons picked up their first shutout of the season with a non-conference win over the Muhls.
Kathryn Henricksen had a pair of assists while Haley Yorgey, Bailey Murphy and Katie Bean were all credited with goals in the win.
Marple Newtown 2, Boyertown 1 >> The Tigers scored twice during the first half before the Bears answered back with a solo tally in the second half during this non-conference matchup.
Lauren Eves scored Boyertown’s lone goal on a feed from Kelsi McDevitt while Laura Wigard made five saves in the cage. Kylie Gioia and Ava Paoletti each scored once for Marple while Olivia Ebersole had an assist.
Wilson 9, Upper Perkiomen 0 >> Kendall Duffy, Madi Herb and Kylie Hoffman each scored twice to pace the Bulldogs past the Tribe in non-conference action.
Duffy had a pair of assists while Herb finished with a helper in the win. Reagan Underwood (assist), Sarah Gatehouse and Emily Horace each scored once for Wilson.
