Delco Girls Basketball Roundup: Borcky, McAteer dominate down low as Garnet downs Rustin
Garnet Valley’s usual suspects stole the show in Saturday’s 60-41 nonleague victory over West Chester Rustin.
Junior forwards Emily McAteer and Brianne Borcky made life difficult for the Rustin defense. McAteer poured in a game-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Borcky notched a double-double of 14 points and 10 boards.
Nicole Barnes had an outstanding floor game for the Jags (2-0), who led by 16 points at halftime. The senior guard finished with seven points, seven assists and three steals.
Jillian Nagy also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points and Abby Anderson dished out four assists.
In other nonleague action:
Academy Park 54, Harriton 46 >> Mahya Woodton cannot be stopped.
The senior guard dropped in a game-high 30 points for the Knights (2-2). Woodton is averaging 30.5 points after four games.
Shantalay Hightower and Anissa Fleming added seven points apiece for AP.
In the Catholic Academies:
Villa Maria 62, Sacred Heart 44 >> The host Lions had trouble overcoming a 17-4 first-quarter deficit. They got within five points in the second quarter before Villa pulled away for good.
Eileen Piombino scored a game-high 26 points, and Kyra Quigley chipped in with eight points, 12 rebounds and four blocked shots for Sacred (3-3, 0-2). Kayleigh Doyle had six points and five assists.
St. Hubert 56, Agnes Irwin 40 >> Paige Brala netted 11 points and Katie Anderson tossed in nine as the Owls fell at the Westtown School Tournament. Taryn Kelly scored eight points and Elizabeth McNulty supplied four assists.
In the Central League:
Penncrest 49, Strath Haven 32 >> Grace Harding dominated the low post and scored a game-high 20 points as the Lions (3-0) cruised to their third straight win. Megan Arndt poured in 14 points and Kylie Chelo followed close behind with 13.
In the Catholic League:
Archbishop Carroll 55, West Catholic 40 >> Molly Masciantonio paced the Patriots to victory Friday night with 22 points. Erin Sweeney tossed in 14 points and hauled in seven rebounds.
