Cassidy’s big shot not enough for Academy Park
Jalen Cassidy’s 3-pointer helped Academy Park get to overtime, but the Knights were edged by Perkiomen Valley, 45-43, in a nonleague game Saturday.
The Knights forced the extra period via a 19-4 edge in the fourth quarter and sealed by Cassidy’s triple in the final seconds. Shermik Lofton led AP (1-4) with 10 points. Kamrohn Roundtree added nine, including eight in the fourth quarter, and Cassidy and Naseim Harley tossed in eight apiece.
In other nonleague action:
Plymouth Whitemarsh 66, Archbishop Carroll 53 >> Justin Anderson and Luke House scored 14 points each, and Ny’Mire Little added 11, but the Patriots (3-1) came up short playing without All-Delco point guard AJ Hoggard.
Glen Mills 34, Great Valley 33 >> Tarik Bey and Ka’Ron Thomas scored eight points each, and Khelan Kirkland and Shyheem Bacon contributed seven apiece as the Battlin’ Bulls (2-2) prevailed despite being limited to nine second-half points.
In the Central League:
Springfield 67, Marple Newtown 46 >> Mike Webb continued his torrid start to the season with a third-straight 30-point game, tossing in 34 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter. Kyle Long added 14 points and seven assists for the Cougars (2-1, 2-0).
Mike May led Marple (2-1, 1-1) with 14 points. Anthony Paoletti added 12 points, and Mike Smith paired eight points with seven rebounds.
Penncrest 63, Strath Haven 36 >> Tyler Norwood poured in 34 points, draining six 3-pointers and going 10-for-11 from the free throw line as the Lions (3-0, 2-0) rolled.
Ryan Morris led Strath Haven (1-3, 0-2) with 12 points.
At the Mercer Tournament:
Episcopal Academy 56, Knox School 53 >> Alex Capitano poured in a game-high 25 points, Justin Hershey splashed home three triples for nine points and Jack Fitzpatrick added 10 points for the Churchmen (4-4) in the second day of the three-day event at Hill School.
At the Kruel Classic:
Patrick School 58, Bonner & Prendergast 49 >> Isaiah Wong scored 10 points, and Ajiri Johnson added nine, but the Friars (4-1) dropped their first game of the year in Florida. Tariq Ingraham added eight points for Bonner.
