Taylor leads Chester Charter to program’s first win
It took all of two games for Chester Charter School for the Arts to notch the program’s first win, with a big help from Akeem Taylor.
Taylor scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, hitting a 3-pointer with 5.2 seconds left to send CCSA to a 50-47 win over Springside Chestnut Hill Tuesday in the first game at the campus gym and the program’s second as high school program.
Devante Morris added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman Tim Evans contributed nine points and five rebounds for the Sabers (1-1).
In other nonleague action:
Academy Park 55, Downingtown West 37 >> Naseim Harley led the Knights to their first win via 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists, but the Knights (1-3) did the job defensively, forcing 14 steals with their dogged full-court press, to outscore the Whippets 40-8 after halftime.
Derik Harrison, in his first game of the season, scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half.
Episcopal Academy 61, Phelps School 49 >> Matt Dade scored 24 points, including going from 14-for-19 from the line, and Jack Fitzpatrick canned three 3-pointers to finish with 16 points for the Churchmen (3-3).
In the Central League:
Penncrest 62, Radnor 41 >> Tyler Norwood was in a generous mood Tuesday, dishing 10 assists to go with 18 points. Matt Arbogast was the primary benefactor, with 17 points and nine rebounds. Gee Antonelli added 10 points for the Lions (2-0, 1-0).
Lewis Robinson paced Radnor (1-1, 0-1) with 13 points, and Vernon Harper contributed 10.
Springfield 78, Harriton 64 >> Mike Webb continued his torrid start with 32 points, but Frank Durham’s 16 points in the third quarter as part of a 24-point evening turned the tide in the favor of the Cougars (1-1, 0-1).
Marple Newtown 63, Strath Haven 55 >> Mike May dished six assists to augment 17 points, and Tommy Gardler chipped in 14 points for the Tigers (2-0, 1-0). Matt Peel added nine points, and Anthony Paoletti tossed in eight in his season debut.
Cooper Driscoll led Strath Haven (1-2, 0-1) with 19 points, and Brady Mutz and Jeff Conner added eight each.
Garnet Valley 70, Ridley 65 >> Austin Laughlin scored a game-high 26 points, leaving him three shy of 1,000 for his career, and Connor O’Brien complemented him with 18 points as the Jaguars (1-1, 1-0) went 11-for-11 from the line down the stretch.
Enoch Clark led Ridley (1-1, 0-1) with 18 points, and John Mastella added 12.
Conestoga 48, Haverford 40 >> JT Smyth scored 14 points and Dan Roe added 11, but the Fords (0-2, 0-1) couldn’t hold on to a three-point lead after three quarters. Milt Robinson led Stoga with 13 points.
Lower Merion 87, Upper Darby 68 >> Diby Keita and Mamadou Toure scored 14 points each, and Kymir Roper added 13, but the Royals (2-1, 0-1) couldn’t keep pace with Jack Forrest (24 points) and the Aces.
In the Bicentennial League:
Delco Christian 46, Christian Academy 42 >> Tyler Penley scored 15 points and Jackson Piotrowksi dropped in 10 as the Knights (3-0, 1-1) topped the Crusaders for the second time in four days. Grant Sareyka paced TCA (1-2, 0-1) with 16 points.
