Conestoga parts ways with football coach Marquis Weeks
TREDYFFRIN >> Conestoga High School is looking for a new head football coach.
The job opening for Conestoga coach was posted on the Tredyffrin-Easttown School District web site Tuesday, shortly after Marquis Weeks was informed that he would not be returning as the Pioneers’ head coach in 2018.
Weeks was originally hired as Conestoga coach in June 2016, in the wake of the tumultuous events that led to the resignation of longtime head coach John Vogan.
Under Weeks, the Pioneers compiled records of 2-8 in 2016 and 1-9 in 2017.
Weeks, a Conestoga graduate (Class of 2000), had a legendary playing career for the Pioneers, gaining more than 6,000 rushing yards and scoring more than 70 touchdowns. His playing honors included being named 1999 SuperPrep All-American, a three-time All-American by PrepStar and National Recruiting Advisor, second team All-State by Pennsylvania Football News and three-time All-Central League first team selection, as well as Daily Local News All-Area Player of the Year.
Following his graduation from Conestoga, he played football for the University of Virginia, and, briefly, for the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL. He currently coaches track and field at Valley Forge Military Academy and teaches social studies in Tredyffrin-Easttown.
“I am grateful to have had the [Conestoga head coaching] opportunity,” said Weeks Tuesday evening.
Conestoga is accepting applications for the head coaching position through December 22.
