Conestoga crew team shines at Manny Flick #2
The Conestoga High School crew club kicked off the racing season with an excellent showing at the Manny Flick #2 regatta on the Schuylkill River March 26. With 10 boys’ and girls’ boats entered in the PSRA Horvat Series race, the team took home six first-place finishes and four second-place finishes.
The overcast chilly weather did not put a damper on the day’s events starting with the boy’s JV double. Junior Warren Zhao and Sophomore Amir Zisling took second place, finishing 00.12 seconds behind Haddon Township. The boys Lightweight double, Liam Bobber and Frank Wang also finished a close second behind Malvern Prep. A short time later, the boys JV quad, Brenton Molsbergen, Cole Fogarty, Michael Medica and Evan Cain finished in first place with a 20.07 second lead over Bergen Catholic.
The girls JV quad, Abigail Lewis, Blair Kennedy, Elena Lindquist and Katherine Stanton, seized first place with a strong with a 27.65 second win. The girls lightweight double, with Natalia Bertolotti and Anna Green came in with an impressive second place finish, 3.47 seconds behind Springside Chestnut Hill.
The boys lightweight quad powered down the Schuylkill with a strong first place finish. Lead by stroke Kale Wiley, Leo Draper, Sam Nalbone and Drew Tada they finished 11.58 seconds ahead of Roman Catholic. The boys Varsity double, Matt Balch and Conner Sullivan followed with a solid 5:02.04 second place finish, 4.34 seconds behind Malvern Prep.
In the final three races for the Conestoga High School Crew Club, the student-athletes took first place in each of the races.
Juniors Holly Culbert and Leah Burgess finished with open water over Strath Haven in the girls Varsity double. In their continued dominance on the Schuylkill, the girls Varsity quad Victoria Budike, Laura Alcorn, Kate Hudson and Kate Concannon, finished with open water over the other three other boats in their flight.
The boys Varsity quad of sophomore Shane Connell, junior Zach Simpson and seniors Max Amsterdam and Griffin Hamilton, finished 18.25 seconds ahead of Roman Catholic B.
