McBlain leads Class 2A states contingent in trimming time
The aim at the PIAA Class 2A championships was dropping time for the Catholic League contingent. On that measure, the trip to Bucknell University was productive.
Several swimmers representing District 12 saw time cuts, though they didn’t translate into anything close to medals.
Bonner & Prendergast sprinter Claire McBlain delivered an impressive 500 freestyle Friday in the second day of the meet, shaving nearly seven seconds off her seed time for a personal-best of 5 minutes, 31.22 seconds to finish 30th.
McBlain also improved on her seed time in the 200 free Thursday despite finishing last in the field of 32.
Cardinal O’Hara’s Daniel Bieter trimmed over two seconds off his seed time in the 100 free to jump up to 31st in 50.03 seconds. Bonner & Prendie’s Luke McDevitt also dropped time in the 100 backstroke, taking home 30th place in 1:01.29.
Bonner & Prendie’s relays took home 23rd (thanks to a DQ) in the medley and 24th in the 200 free Thursday; the latter squad of McDevitt, Theodore Greiner, Josh Bryan and Arvin Sequeira bested its seed time by eight tenths of a second.
