Friends’ Central swimmers capture Friends’ Schools League championships
Friends’ Central School did it again in the pool at the Friends Schools League Championships held at George School Feb. 11. In front of a packed crowd, the Phoenix boys (5-2) defended their league title successfully for the 14th consecutive time. The Phoenix girls (6-1) won 8 out of the 11 events and set a number of records in the process.
Friends’ Central head coach Iain Anderson said, “The kids were thrown all sorts of ‘cold and flu’ curve balls this winter, but they certainly found a team way to rally – and turn in a great overall performance today.”
For the Friends’ Central girls, event winners were Sofia Acchione (100 fly, 100 breast, 200 free relay, 400 free relay), Maddie Anderson (500 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relays), Elisabeth Forsyth (200 IM, 100 back, 200 free relay, 400 free relay) and Kate Raphaely (100 free, 200 free relay, 400 free relay).
For the Friends’ Central boys, event winners were Dyaus Rai (100 fly, 100 back) and Billy Wilkerson (500 free).
Friends Schools League records were set by Sofia Acchione (100 fly, 100 breast) and the FCS 400 free relay team of Elisabeth Forsyth, Kate Raphaely, Sofia Acchione and Maddie Anderson.
