Dever does it all as Marple Newtown nips Garnet Valley
In a tie game in overtime, Marple Newtown went to the plan that got them to the extra session: Mark Dever.
Dever laid in a lob from Scott Hahn Tuesday night to finish with a career-high 33 points as Marple downed Garnet Valley, 77-75, in the Central League.
Dever also hit two free throws to send the game to OT in a vital win for the playoff aspirations of the Tigers (7-11, 4-9).
Hahn added 16 points and seven rebounds, and Mike May contributed 11 points, five assists and four steals, including one that set up the game-winning shot.
Austin Laughlin led Garnet Valley per usual with 36 points. Brandon Starr chipped in 19 for the Jags (12-7, 7-6).
Also in the Central League:
Lower Merion 58, Penncrest 56 >> Tyler Norwood scored 22 points, including a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to one score in the final 10 seconds, and dished seven assists, but the Lions (13-6, 9-4) dropped a fourth straight decision.
Mike Mallon added 16 points for Penncrest.
Upper Darby 56, Radnor 52 >> Noah Walker scored 18 points as the Royals (6-11, 5-8) won for a fifth straight time. Magd Adelwehab chipped in 10 points.
Zahir Lee and Vernon Harper each scored 14 points to pace Radnor (7-12, 3-10).
Strath Haven 52, Ridley 43 >> The frontcourt duo of John Harrar (20 points, 10 rebounds) and Cooper Driscoll (18 points, 8 boards) lifted Haven (12-6, 9-4) in a back-and-forth game.
Damir Fleming led Ridley (10-9, 7-6) with 16 points.
Conestoga 51, Springfield 42 >> Great Orjih and Ja’Den McKenzie scored nine points each, but the Cougars (11-8, 7-6) were held in check.
In the Del Val League:
Academy Park 50, Glen Mills 49 >> Nick Simmons completed an and-one with 15 seconds to play to put the Knights ahead for good.
Simmons poured in 15 points, and Nasiem Harley added 11 for AP (10-8, 4-3).
Kenyon Cooper paced the Bulls (10-8, 4-3) with 15 points, and Myron Sanders added 10.
Penn Wood 69, Chichester 59 >> The Patriots (12-6, 6-1) exhibited tremendous balance with 14 points each from Vincent Smalls, Jay Fitzgerald and Keith Farmer.
DaQuan Granberry paced Chichester (5-13, 1-6) with 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Mike Davie added 14 points and 10 boards.
Chester 81, Interboro 35 >> Jordan Camper scored 14 points to go with eight rebounds, and Timothy Johnston added a career-high 13 points as the Clippers spread around the scoring wealth.
Rahmaad DeJarnette added a career-best 12 points, and Ahrod Carter and Jahmeir Springfield added 11 apiece for the Clippers (14-4, 6-1).
Ethan Herko canned five 3-pointers to pace Interboro.
In the Ches-Mont League:
Sun Valley 59, Oxford 54 >> Vinny DeAngelo and Marvin Freeman poured in 21 points apiece as the Vanguards (5-13, 3-9) snapped a three-game losing streak. Tyler Ungarino added 11 points.
In the Inter-Ac:
Haverford School 72, Springside Chestnut Hill 65 >> Christian Ray scored 11 of his 18 points in the second half, and Kharon Randolph added 16 as the Fords arrested a three-game slide.
Gavin Burke added 14 points for Haverford (17-4, 6-2).
Episcopal Academy 72, Malvern Prep 61 >> Nick Alikakos did a little of everything with 28 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists, and Kyle Virbitsky added a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards for EA.
Matt Dade tossed in 15 points for EA (14-9, 7-1).
