Presenting All-Main Line girls volleyball teams
The Main Line high school girls volleyball teams featured several strong squads this past fall, particularly Academy of Notre Dame (18-4), which was undefeated in the InterAc (8-0), won the league title for the third time in the past four years and captured the PAISAA state championship for the fourth consecutive year.
Other noteworthy local squads included Merion Mercy Academy (18-9), Conestoga (12-9), Lower Merion (7-4 in the Central League) and Sacred Heart (placed second in the PIAA District One Class A tourney).
The All-Main Line high school girls’ volleyball teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of spots available to first team, second team and honorable mention — but follows the priority of coaches’ selections.
What follows are the fall 2016 All-Main Line girls’ volleyball teams (Archbishop Carroll, Villa Maria Academy and Radnor did not send us completed All-Main Line ballots despite several requests):
FIRST TEAM
Allison Hendrick, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior middle blocker and co-captain, a two-time first team All-InterAc selection, led the PAISAA state champions in kills and was second in blocks. Her intensity and leadership were key to the Irish’s title drives this fall. Has committed to Rider University.
Emma Butler, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior setter and co-captain led the PAISAA state champions in assists, was second in aces as first server each set, and was key to the Irish’s InterAc and PAISAA state championship drives this fall, making a comeback after being sidelined her junior year with a broken foot.
Elise Butler, Academy of Notre Dame – Junior outside hitter, a first team All-InterAc selection, was valued for her versatility and wide range of skills, as she was first on the Irish in aces, second in kills and second in digs.
Alexis Capers, Agnes Irwin – Senior outside hitter and captain, a first team All-InterAc selection, received the Owls’ Excellence Award. Will play at Lafayette College next year.
Caroline Kiser, Baldwin School – Senior outside hitter, the Polar Bears’ MVP and a first team All-InterAc selection, was an all-around performer who recorded 176 kils and 152 digs in 19 games, and racked up 44 service aces along with some key blocks and assists.
Lauren Harris, Conestoga – Senior middle hitter was the Pioneers’ co-MVP, recording 176 kills and 64 blocks in 21 games. Received second team All-Central League honors.
Gabi Castro, Conestoga – Junior libero was the Pioneers’ co-MVP, recording 219 digs and 40 aces in 21 games. Received second team All-Central League honors.
Adi Segal, Lower Merion – Junior libero led Aces in digs (308 in 20 games) and service receptions. Also provided some key aces to spur the Aces to a 7-4 Central League record.
Allison Stranick, Merion Mercy Academy – Senior outside hitter, a first team PIAA Class AAA all-state selection, finished her Golden Bear career with 1,132 kills and 1,040 digs. The AACA all-star led Merion Mercy in kills (418) and aces (46).
Adrienne Rufus, Merion Mercy Academy – Senior setter was the Golden Bears’ Most Valuable Player, led Merion Mercy in total assists and was an AACA all-star.
SECOND TEAM
Academy of Notre Dame – Riley Shaak, freshman middle blocker; Maddie Donaphon, freshman libero; Molly Kieft, junior right side hitter.
Agnes Irwin – Gianna Napoleon, sophomore outside hitter.
Baldwin School – Haley Tavares, juniro middle hitter.
Conestoga – Maxine Felker, senior outside hitter; Laryssa Terleckyj, senior outside hitter; Lea Coogan, senior setter.
Harriton – Grace Kimzey, senior outside hitter.
Haverford High – Aly Lowe, senior outside/setter.
Lower Merion – Marie Hamilton, junior middle; Michaela Jackson, senior middle.
Sacred Heart – Juliana Michniak, junior outside hitter; Jaycee Webster, sophomore outside hitter.
HONORABLE MENTION
Academy of Notre Dame – Lexi Shreiner, sophomore outside hitter.
