Woodward’s 22 keys Methacton; Phoenixville downs Upper Perk

Keyed by Jeff Woodward’s 22 points, the Methacton boys basketball team outlasted Boyertown in their Pioneer Athletic Conference Liberty Division matchup Friday, claiming a 57-56 win.

Crandall Jones gave Methacton a boost from 3-point range, getting all nine of his points from outside the arc. They were key to the Warriors overcoming a 42-40 third-quarter deficit to pull out a victory that put them at 7-2 in league play (10-7) overall.

Boyertown got a game-high 23 points from Jerry Kapp and another 15 from Zach Benning. Marcus Thomas also finished in double figures, hitting 10.

Phoenixville 51, Upper Perkiomen 47 >> The Phantoms saw an early lead endangered by the Indians, but they were able to keep pace with their PAC guests down the stretch to come away with the Frontier Division victory.

Fueled by Avery Close’s 12 points and Shyheim Abernathy’s 10, Phoenixville (4-2, 9-6) went up by a 31-15 count in the first half before seeing UP close to within four (36-32) after three. Ryan Kendra had a game-high 19-points for the Tribe (3-3, 8-7) — aided by four 3-point buckets — but couldn’t break a second-place tie with Phoenixville in its favor.
