Upper Dublin splashes to a sweep of Hatboro-Horsham
UPPER DUBLIN >> Senior Night was fast approaching.
“Fast isn’t even the word,” Upper Dublin speedster Jenna Johns said. “The other day, we were at Wissahickon, and coach Pat (Redican) and I were talking about our freshman year on the bus ride.
“And we were saying it feels just like yesterday. And now we’re graduating. It’s weird, but I’m excited to see what college (Nova Southeastern University) has in store for me.”
Johns and the Cardinals made their Senior Night a memorable one Friday evening, as she led the girls squad to a 96-80 victory over rival Hatboro-Horsham and the Cardinal boys prevailed 102.5-83.5 in their match-up with Hatboro.
Johns swam to a pair of individual victories — cranking out a winning time of 24.62 seconds in the 50-yard freestyle and 57.43 in the 100 butterfly — and she joined Elle Braun, Lia Wilmoth and Abbie Amdor to take the 200 medley relay, opening the meet with a 1:52.99.
Breslin was a winner in the 200 free, Amdor took the 200 IM, and Braun was tops in the 100 free. Also for the Cardinals, Kelly Regan dove to a 204.58 score to win the diving and Liz Medvedev was the 500 freestyle winner in 5:42.42.
Matt Jensen was a big winner for the Upper Dublin boys, touching first in the 100 fly and 100 breast as well as swimming on both winning medley and 400 free relays while the Hatboro-Horsham boys were powered by Andy Thomas’ pair of firsts in the 200 IM and 100 free.
“This is a fantastic meet every year,” Thomas said. “The guys really pull together as a team and we really push each other. Everyone is really into the meet and drops some really nice times.”
Grace Riemenschneider had a pair of nice swims for the Hatter girls, anchoring the 200 free and 400 free relay teams to victory.
