Hare’s pins spark Hill School wrestling

Hill School 40, Lawrenceville 38 >> Pins by Wyatt Hare and Devin Calhoun in the final weight classes enabled the Blues to overtake the Larries for a narrow victory in a match between the longtime Mid-Atlantic Prep League rivals at Academy of the New Church.

Trailing Lawrenceville by a 38-28 count through 145, The Hill saw Hare pin Brandon Li in 3:06 at 152, then Calhoun needing just 12 seconds to deck Jonathan D’Souza at 160 to secure the comeback victory. Other pins by Charles Kennedy (113) and Kyle Gorant (138), along with Mike Stevens’ major decision at 120, helped The Hill overcome an initial 18-0 deficit coming on forfeits of three weight classes.

Hill School 42, Ac. of New Church 39 >> The Blues capped their sweep of a three-school match at Academy of the New Church by outlasting their non-league hosts.

The Hill built a 42-15 lead through the first 10 weights, which proved enough even with ANC taking the final four on three pins and a forfeit. Dymir Davis-Carruth (220), Will Hare (285), Charles Kennedy (113), Ted Kennedy (126) and Kyle Gorant (138) all scored falls around a forfeit to Erika Quinones (132) for the Blues’ ultimately-insurmountable point advantage.
