Sophie Grady becomes Harriton’s all-time leading girls’ basketball scorer
Harriton senior guard Sophie Grady became the school’s all-time leading girls’ basketball scorer Wednesday in the Rams’ win against Strath Haven.
With Harriton holding a 3-0 lead, courtesy of a Meg Wilcox three-pointer from the corner, Grady forced a turnover at midcourt, drove to the basket and got fouled on the shot. As she has done many times before, Grady toed the foul line and sunk the first free throw.
Following the made free throw, Harriton head coach Kacy McNichol called time-out so Grady could be recognized as the new all-time leading scorer in the history of the Harriton girls basketball program.
“It’s a pretty big deal [to me],” said Grady. “I did not realize I was that close to the record so it means a lot to represent Harriton. I am really excited.”
Grady, who finished with 20 points, broke the school record held by Heather Barrie (1,091 points).
In the win, Harriton’s Christina Brown added 15 points and Wilcox chipped in with 10.
