Presenting 2016 All-Main Line field hockey teams

The 2016 Main Line high school field hockey season included some outstanding teams.
Academy of Notre Dame (19-2-1 overall) was undefeated (10-0) in the InterAc, and claimed its second PAISAA title in four years, defeating Episcopal Academy (14-6-2) in the championship final.
Conestoga (22-2) captured the Central League title and advanced to the PIAA Class AAA state quarterfinals. Other strong teams in the Central League included Harriton (10-7), Haverford (12-8 overall, 10-1 Central League) and Lower Merion (11-7-1).
The AACA had two teams that went far in the post-season. Merion Mercy Academy (19-5-2) advanced to the PIAA Class AA state championship final, and Villa Maria Academy (20-3) made it to the PIAA Class AA state championship semifinal.
In the Friends’ Schools League, Shipley (9-6) had a strong team.
The All-Main Line high school field hockey teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of spots available to first team, second team and honorable mention — but follows the priority of coaches’ selections.
What follows are the 2016 All-Main Line field hockey teams:

FIRST TEAM
Quinn Maguire, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior forward was All-Delco Player of the Year, tallying 37 goals and dishing out 27 assists in 22 games. For her career, the first team All-InterAc selection scored 109 goals and handed out 69 assists to lead the Irish to a pair of Inter-Ac League and PAISAA championships.
Mary Kate Neff, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior midfielder, a first team All-Delco selection (for the second time) and All-InterAc pick, scored 20 goals and dished out 19 assists in 22 games. Finished her career with 68 goals and 42 assists, joined the NFHCA’s All-Region team and is on the Team USA U17 national team. Will attend Princeton University.
Colleen Kearney, Academy of Notre Dame – The senior defender led an airtight Irish defense that posted six shutouts and allowed just one goal in seven other games. A first team All-Delco selection and two-time first team All-InterAc pick came up with several defensive saves and provided fine all-around play (including scoring) to help lead the Irish to the Inter-Ac and PAISAA titles.
Julianna Tornetta, Agnes Irwin – Senior midfielder and co-captain, the Owls’ all-time leading goal scorer, tallied 24 goals in 23 games this fall and earning All-InterAc and NFHCA All-Academic honors. Committed to Princeton University.

Sam Swart, Archbishop Carroll – A senior midfielder and captain, as well as a first team All-Delco and All-Catholic selection, Swart scored 30 goals and was the Patriots’ MVP. Valued for her speed and skill on the Patriots’ forward line, she finished her Carroll career with 104 goals, and will play field hockey and lacrosse at Syracuse University.

Charlotte de Vries, Conestoga – Sophomore midfielder scored 44 goals in 24 games and dished out 20 assists. A first team All-Central League selection, she was voted the Pioneers’ most valuable midfielder. Is a U17 National Team member.
Meredith Ross, Conestoga – Senior forward and captain averaged two goals per game, scoring 48 goals in 24 contests. A two-time first team All-Central League selection, she was voted the Pioneers’ offensive MVP. Scored more than 100 career goals for Conestoga. Will play at Michigan State next fall.
Corinne Zanolli, Episcopal Academy – Senior attacking center mid and captain was the Churchwomens’ MVP and a first team All-InterAc selection, scoring 29 goals in 22 games and dishing out 16 assists. Noted for her outstanding all-around skills, she has signed with Stanford.
Maddie Rehak, Episcopal Academy – Sophomore forward, a first team All-InterAc selection, scored 17 goals in 22 games and dished out 12 assists. A dangerous scoring threat with great speed and quickness, she served on the Churchwomens’ offensive PC unit.
Molly McDonough, Harriton – Junior center defender and captain, a first team All-Central League selection, was considered the anchor of the Rams’ defense, and was Harriton’s Defensive MVP. Posted five defensive saves, she was flyer on defensive corners, and is noted for her great speed and intensity.
Carly Gannon, Haverford High – Sophomore center forward/middie was a first team All-Central League pick and was voted the Fords’ Offensive MVP, scoring nine goals in 20 games and dishing out seven assists.
Lea VanLuvender, Haverford High – Senior center defensive back and captain was a first team All-Delco pick and first team All-Central League selection. She was voted the Fords’ Defensive MVP, anchoring a defense that posted five shutouts and providing some offensive punch as well this fall.
Samantha Scimeca, Lower Merion – Senior defensive center mid anchored a strong Aces’ defense. Her fine all-around consistent play this fall earned her a selection for first team All-Central League.
Jamie Natale, Merion Mercy Academy – Senior was first team all-state selection, an AACA all-star and second team all-region by NFHCA. Scored 23 goals and dished out 15 assists in 26 games. Won the Golden Bears’ attack MVP award. Committed to Boston College.
Kelsey Farkas, Merion Mercy Academy – Senior was first team all-state selection as well as AACA all-star. Displayed a wide range of talents for the PIAA state runner-up, scoring 13 goals dishing out four assists and making five defensive saves. Won the Golden Bears’ Defensive MVP award.
Kolbe Keating, Merion Mercy Academy – Senior, an AACA all-star, displayed a wide range of skills during the season for the PIAA Class AA state runner-up, scoring 14 goals, dishing out three assists and making three defensive saves. Committed to Harvard.
Page Lowry, Radnor – Sophomore forward was a prolific scorer for Radnor, leading the Red Raiders in goals scored this fall.
Ashleigh Gundy, Shipley – Junior midfielder was the Gators’ Most Valuable Player, providing a wide range of offensive and defensive skills that allowed the Shipley squad to have a successful season. An All-Friends Schools League first team selection, she scored six goals and made three assists in 15 games.
Lindsay Dickinson, Villa Maria Academy – Junior midfielder and co-captain, an AACA all-star, scored 17 goals and dished out 22 assists in 23 games for the PIAA Class AA state semifinalists. Has committed to the University of Connecticut.
Annina Iacobucci, Villa Maria Academy – Senior forward and co-captain, an AACA all-star, was a prolific scorer for the PIAA Class AA state semifinalists, tallying 34 goals in 23 games and dishing out six assists.
Emily Doyle, Villa Maria Academy – Junior forward, an AACA all-star, was a prolific scorer for the PIAA Class AA state semifinalists, tallying 27 goals in 23 games and dishing out five assists.
