Lansdale Catholic, Mount St. Joseph to square off in Snear Tournament Final

CONSHOHOCKEN >> It was a tale of two easy tournament wins setting up what should be a terrific final.

Lauren Grim had a game-high 20 points and Emily Smith added eight off the bench to help push Lansdale Catholic to a 51-33 win over Agnes Irwin in the nightcap of the George Snear Basketball Tournament Tuesday night at the Fellowship House in Conshohocken.

The victory puts the Crusaders into Wednesday night’s title game against Mount St. Joseph, an easy 66-15 winner over Girard College High in the opener.

Lauren Vesey and Julie Hoover led the Magic with 12 points each, while Grace Gelone added 10.

The Magic and the Crusaders will square off at 7:30 following the opening game between Agnes Irwin’s Owls and the Cavs of Girard College High.

The opener saw the Magic barely break a sweat as they cruised to a 43-5 halftime lead, then cooled their jets while coasting to the win.

And while the victory was easy, peezy, Magic head coach Claire Perry said the Magic were pleased to be able to work on some things.

“We had things we needed to work on, and I think we got that done,” the Magic coach said. “We worked on discipline and some little things, and I think we succeeded in our goals.

“We’re excited for (Wednesday night), we’re excited for tonight’s practice and we’re excited to see if what we worked on will help us (Wednesday).”

The Magic may need some help against the Crusaders, who blew out to an early lead against the Owls of Agnes Irwin, who were expected to give LC a fight.

But after Grim bucketed 15 points by halftime, the Crusaders were not to be headed.

The Crusaders led, 27-10 by halftime, then eased on in to the finish line.

Smith knocked down a pair of threes in the first quarter, then watched as the Crusaders spread the wealth in the second half.

The Owls got 10 points from Katie Anderson and a combined 11 points from Carolyn Coyne and Gianna Napolean in the fourth quarter.

With the building closing at 9:00, both of the nightcap’s participants were quickly hustled out, and LC was able to slip out without comment.

But the championship contest should spark more than a little conversation.
