Bishop Shanahan staves off Oxford
Staff Reports
Bishop Shanhan jumped out to a big lead, then held off a second-half rally to thwart Oxford, 42-35, in a Ches-Mont League nonleague crossover football game Friday.
The Eagles (6-1) forged a 35-7 lead on a 62-yard TD pass from Nick Skulski to Brandon Dearing with 4:22 in the second. The Hornets (1-6) struck back immediately as Brandon Holtz returned the kickoff 99 yards for the score to cut the deficit to 35-14.
Shanahan extended its lead early in the second half. Skulski broke into the open on an option on 3rd-and-1, and rambled 90 yards for a TD.
Oxford captialized on a Shanahan fumble to make it 42-21 on a 4-yard run with 3:57 in the third.
It stood that way until Davis scored from one with 3:18 in the game. They cut it to 42-35 as Eric Imperato took a slant pass from QB Ryan Engle all the way from 52-yards out with 1:05 left.
However, they caught the ensuing pooch kick. Two kneeldowns later, the Eagles escaped with the win to spoil Oxford’s homecoming.
