Mercury-Area Volleyball Roundup: Mooney’s 18 kills lead PJP past Upper Merion
Pope John Paul II 3, Upper Merion 0 >> Mary Kate Mooney had 18 kills and 10 digs in helping the Golden Panthers sweep their Pioneer Athletic Conference match with the Vikings.
PJP won by set scores of 25-17, 27-25 and 25-20 in a pairing of the PAC’s unbeaten co-leaders. The Panthers stand alone atop the league at 6-0, UM back in second place at 5-1.
Alana Pergine had 14 kills and Myah Cordrey seven, with Hayley Wusinich adding 39 assists, 18 digs and nine services points. Alyssa Cianciulli chipped in with 30 digs and 10 service points.
Spring-Ford 3, Owen J. Roberts 0 >> Mikayla McLeod and Michelle Frank headed a quartet of statistical stars for the Rams as they swept their PAC match with Owen J. Roberts. Spring-Ford won by scores of 25-9, 25-8 and 25-9.
McLeod had four kills and three digs while Frank contributed one kill and 13 digs. Catherine Cervi added three blocks, and Kelsey Brobst five digs.
Methacton 3, Norristown 0 >> Carli Ginther had 14 assists, three aces and one kill to highlight the Warriors’ sweep of the Eagles in their PAC match. Methacton won by set scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-22.
Gianna Santangelo added seven kills and one block for Methacton. Andrea Castaneda contributed five kills and one ace, Rainah Dunham chipped in with five kills, one ace and one block and Emma Eglinton made 10 assists.
Daniel Boone 3, Reading 0 >> Madison Kessler and Devon Haag were the leaders of the Blazers’ sweep of their Berks Conference match with the Red Knights. Boone won by set scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-13.
Kessler had nine kills, two digs and three aces for Boone, with Haag adding 25 assists, seven digs and five aces.
