Mercury-Area Field Hockey Roundup: Unionville stats ’16 off right, tops Spring-Ford

Methacton 6, North Penn 3 >> Olivia Hoover and Emily Owens both scored twice as Methacton ran away with the contest in the second half.
Julia Dickinson and Katy Benton each added a goal as the Warriors led 4-3 after the first half before adding two unanswered in the second. Jackie Cerchio had an assist while Grethen Alderfer made two defensive saves. Addie Frey posted 10 saves in the win.
Bri O’Donnell had two goals for North Penn while Emily Crawford finished with one goal.

Boyertown 5, Daniel Boone 1 >> Sydney Fox scored twice and added an assist as the Bears used a second-half surge to down the Blazers in non-conference action.
Jen O’Connor added a pair of goals while Ashley Dierolf scored once and Tiffany Diachynsky had an assist. Boyertown broke a 1-1 tie at the half with a 4-0 advantage in the second half. Hailey Levengood finished with five saves in goal.

Unionville 4, Spring-Ford 1 >> Four goal scorers paced Unionville to a win over Spring-Ford in both team’s season opener.
Katie Anderson, Maddie McDonough, Madison Miles and Morgan Lyons each tallied goals. Claire Donovan and Caroline Fisher each had assists. Lizzie Gaebel made six saves in the win.
The Rams were led offensively by Lexie Nugent (one goal) and Katelyn Crist (one assist). Lexi Cano and Kristen Grebe combined for a 14-save effort.

Kutztown 2, Pottstown 0 >> Kutztown snapped a 19-game losing streak with a two-goal victory over the Trojans in both team’s season opener.
Following a scoreless first half, Lauren Blackwood scored midway through the second frame with Merideth Ache adding the insurance goal two minutes later.
Naisha Elliot-Moore made 13 saves for Pottstown, which finished with seven shots offensively.

Upper Perkiomen 2, Souderton 1 >> AiYi Young figured in both Indian goals — particularly the game-winner in their season-opening non-league victory over the Big Red.
Young assisted Abriana Gatto on UP’s first tally at the 28:11 mark in the first half, then the players reversed roles for the deciding tally with 2:05 left in overtime. Liz Pierson had four goalie saves for the Indians while Souderton got its goal from Isabella Paide in the first half and 15 goalie saves from Casey Febus.
