Mercury All-Area 2016 Girls Track & Field Selections

FIRST TEAM

Christina Warren, Perkiomen Valley

Freshman … Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles … Medaled at PIAA-AAA Championships, placing sixth in 100-meter hurdles (14.42) and also placing 14th in triple jump (36-8¼) and also qualified for the long jump at states. … Had phenomenal ninth grade season in all events that helped lead Vikings to a 9-0 dual meet record during the regular season … Won PAC-10 championship in 100-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

Caroline Duffy, Methacton

Senior … Sprints, hurdles … Closed out brilliant career with Warriors at state meet by earning third-place medal in 300-meter intermediate hurdles (43.64 for PR) and fourth-place medal in 200-meter dash (24.89) at PIAA-AAA Championships at Shippensburg Unversity … Versatile performer who also won two medals at states as sophomore before battling mononucleosis during her junior year while finishing with a total of six state medals … Mercury All-Area Athlete of the Year … Will continue career at Division I St. Joseph’s University. … Won titles in 100, 200, 300 hurdles and 400 dash during PAC-10 Championships.

Ally Brunton, Owen J. Roberts

Junior … Distance … Led Wildcats to PAC-10 team title at the league championship meet, breaking 10-year stranglehold by powerful Methacton … Won 1,600-meter gold medal, 800 gold, and also ran on 4×400 and 4×800 relays at league meet … Anchored Owen J. Roberts’ 4×800-meter relay to second-place silver medal with PR time of 9:15.05 at districts while being joined on the run by Megan Bernotas, Emma Torak and Mary Bernotas.

Annie Glodek, Perkiomen Valley

Junior … Distance … Took ninth place at states in 3,200-meter run to just miss receiving a medal … Cross country star in the fall continued success during spring track & field … Also won 3,200-meter run during PAC-10s for Vikings while also anchoring PV’s distance relays … Finished first at PAC-10s in 3,200-meter run with time of 11:14.

Teneisha Myers, Owen J. Roberts

Junior … Sprints … Qualified for states in both 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.47 and 25.50, respectively and also qualified for districts in 400 at 58.07 … Was also key member of Wildcats’ sprint relays. 

Morgan Shronk, Owen J. Roberts

Sophomore … Mid-distance … 400-meter star for Wildcats in both open and relay races … Qualified for states in 400 dash at 58.36 … Had area girls’ top mark of 57.99 in 400 heading into District 1 meet.

Sarafina Valenti, Boyertown

Senior … Throws … Talented in all three throwing events, discus, javelin and shot put … Qualified for states in discus with throw of 111-7 …Won PAC-10 title in discus and placed second in shot put … All-around star athlete who is an outstanding goalie in girls soccer who will pursue that sport at Division I Penn State University for national champion Nittany Lions. Was also placekicker for football team during fall and also played basketball for Bears during winter.

Becca Hemingway, Boyertown

Junior … Jumps, sprints … Qualified for states in long jump at 18-0¼ … Finished second in high jump at PAC-10s and qualified for District 1-AAA meet with leap of 5-3 … All-around quality performer who scored a lot of team points for the Bears due to her versatility.

Aleigha Johnson, Spring-Ford

Junior … Jumps … Captured first-place gold medal in high jump at league meet with a leap of 5-3 and also placed second in the triple jump … Qualified for districts in triple jump at 38-1

Rae Rae Taylor, Owen J. Roberts

Junior … Throws, Jumps … Captured gold medal in javelin at PAC-10s to lead a sweep of the event that helped boost Wildcats throughout the season en route to Owen J. Roberts’ PAC-10 Championships team title … Qualified for districts in javelin with throw of 111-8 in joining teammates Maddie Alvaro (112-3) and Harley Ginnona (109-9) at the competition.

Fallon Brown, Methacton

Sophomore … Pole Vault, Jumps … Captured first-place gold medal in pole vault at league meet with height of 10-6 … Qualified for District 1 meet at Coatesville with height of 10-9.

K.T. Armstrong, Perkiomen Valley

Senior … Throws …. Won shot put gold medal at league meet and also placed second to also earn a silver medal in the discus …  Girls basketball star helped lead the Vikings to the PAC-10 title during the winter and will pursue basketball on a Division I scholarship to St. Joseph’s University … Best throw in shot put was 37-1½ … Qualified for districts in shot put at 36-5¼ and discus at 103-4.

COACH OF THE YEAR

Tim Marcoe, Owen J. Roberts

In his first year at the helm, Marcoe’s Owen J. Roberts girls broke Methacton’s 10-year streak of undefeated league championships by virtue of a team victory in the PAC-10 Championship Meet at Phoenixville’s Washington Field. Owen J. Roberts broke Methacton’s run of dual meet victories during the regular season, but the Wildcats were beaten by undefeated Perkiomen Valley in their dual meet. But OJR had the better overall performance at the league championships in order to secure the overall league crown.
