Spring-Ford flips script, ousts Garnet Valley
Staring at the prospect of seeing its season end in the same agonizing fashion as a year ago, the Spring-Ford boys lacrosse team delivered.
Up against a Garnet Valley team that ended the Rams’ 2015 campaign, Spring-Ford utilized a second-quarter surge and hung on late to win 16-13 in a District 1 boys lacrosse playback for the district’s final PIAA berth on Tuesday at Coach McNelly Stadium.
The Rams got four goals and an assist from Matt DellaCroce and three goals and four assists from Kevin Todd. Jarred Marenger added two goals and two assists while the Rams were again without leading scorer Jake Hvazda due to injury.
Garnet Valley got three goals apiece from Jacob Buttermore and Ty Moschella while two each from Evan Trizonis (two assists) and Denny Nealon.
Spring-Ford, the district No. 2 seed which fell to Springfield in the quarterfinals, led 3-2 after a quarter but outscored the Jaguars (16-7) for a 10-3 halftime edge.
The Rams (22-2) face a do-or-die PIAA play-in game against Bishop Shanahan on Thursday at 4 p.m. at Harriton.
