Four PAC-10 teams suffer first round losses at districts
Haverford 14, Methacton 11 >> The Haverford girls lacrosse team beat Methacton in the first round of the District 1 playoffs Tuesday afternoon at A.G. Cornog Stadium at Haverford High School.
The No. 16 seed Fords scored five straight goals over a three-minute and 44-second span to close out the first half and open the second. The 5-0 run turned a one-goal deficit into a four-goal lead that would never get below three over the final 21:36.
Haverford’s Hanna Breslin led the Fords in scoring with five goals. Nora Janzer and Laura Winters each added three.
“We need to put together two halves,” Methacton coach Laurie Markle said. “We had a 10-minute lapse. That was the difference and we couldn’t recover back from it.”
Methacton’s Alana Cardaci, Sara Hughes and Daria Lucchesi each scored three goals and Jackie Cercio tallied two. Cercio assisted on three goals and Lucchesi two.
“Even our offense got into panic mode for about five minutes,” Markle said. “We looked like the bad news bears for about five minutes and then everybody settled down.”
Central Bucks West 19, Perkiomen Valley 9 >> The Bucks ended the Vikings’ season with a win in the opening round of the district playoffs.
Dani Dundas and Bryn Boylan scored four times apiece for CBW while Kelly O’Callaghan had a hat trick.
“They came to play and they played a great game. All credit to our opponents today,” Perkiomen Valley coach Kathy Kelley said. “They put it out there. We tried our best to counter punch, but definitely it was their day today.”
Christie Balestra had four goals for while Anna Koniencki found the back of the net twice as the Vikings fell in the district first round for the second consecutive season.
Merion Mercy 13, Spring-Ford 11 >> The Rams saw their season end in the first round of the District 1 playoffs, upended by Merion Mercy.
Camryn Jones led the Rams with her five-goal showing. Olivia Yeagle chipped in with a hat trick, while Brianna Cirino, Jill Quigley and Anja Sweeney had solo tallies for the locals, who had the bracket’s 14th seed. Kamille Ward had a six-save day in goal.
Central Bucks South 12, Boyertown 9 >> Kristen Bernsten scored five times while Courtney Taylor and Kasey Dietzel posted four points apiece to lift the Titans past the Bears in the opening round of districts.
Taylor had a goal and three assists while Dietzel notched three goals and a helper to validate Erin Putnam’s 14-save showing in goal. Hailey Heimbach paced Boyertown with a goal and four assists while Kyle Graver scored three times. Sydney Fox and Amanda Diachynsky each scored two goals apiece.
