Mercury Area Baseball Roundup: Perk School tops Barrack to win TCL title

It’s been tough for baseball teams to score against Perkiomen School of late.

And even tougher to keep the Panthers from scoring big.

Such was the case again Thursday, when Perkiomen hosted Barrack Hebrew Academy in the Tri-County League’s championship game. For the third time in as many days, the Panthers rolled up an 11-0 victory on an opponent — two of them in the TCL’s playoffs.

Scoring five times in its half of the sixth inning, Perkiomen brought the mercy rule into play. While fueling its offense with 13 hits and five walks, the Panthers got a combined two-hitter from Marlon Lindsay and Levi Stoudt to secure its latest Tri-County title.

Christian Del Toro and Michael Gama each drove in two runs to help Perkiomen open a 6-0 lead through five at-bats. Del Toro and Brett Ciocari were each 2-for-3 while Lindsey added a 3-for-4 for the Panthers, who survived a four-error day in the field.

Lindsey scattered the two Barrack hits and one walk over 5-1/3 innings’ work. Stoudt came on to finish, striking out two at the end.

Perkiomen Valley 7, Owen J. Roberts 2 >> The Vikings improved their standing in the PAC-10’s Final Four lineup with their victory over the Wildcats.

Adam Gaines (2-for-3) and Nate Yoder (2-for-4) each drove in pairs of runs to help Perkiomen (15-3) complete its scoring by the fourth inning. Starter Mark Ott got the pitching win for the Vikes, who matched Boyertown for the best league regular-season record, after Zach Alcott nailed down the game with three innings of three-hit shutout pitching.

Griffin Hensley drove in both OJR runs.

Spring-Ford 10, Owen J. Roberts 1 >> The Rams moved ahead of the Wildcats in the PAC-10 Final Four lineup with a victory in OJR’s second game of the day.

Quinn McKenna swung a particularly hot bat for Spring-Ford (14-4), driving in six runs off 4-for-4 hitting that featured a triple and double. Brian Varani, Sean McHugh and Connor Larkin all had two-hit nights in support of winning pitcher Jake Zoller, who scattered four hits and fanned seven over five innings.

Owen J. (13-5), which came into the day in position to finish with a share of first place in the PAC standings, ended up swept by Perkiomen Valley and Spring-Ford. It will be the fourth seed in the Final Four behind the Rams.

Pope John Paul II 9, Pottsgrove 6 >> The Golden Panthers closed out the Falcons’ PAC-10 schedule on a down note, riding their early run production to victory over their hosts.

Ryan Lynn and Billy Hitman each drove in a pair of runs to help PJP (6-11) build a 7-3 lead through three at-bats – one that survived Pottsgrove’s three-run fourth. Hitman (double) and Lynn each went 2-for-4 while Amedeo Citro added a 2-for-3 to support winning pitcher Andrew John, who worked the first three innings before Jimmy Roskos closed out with five-strikeout relief.

Mike Gantert provided the Falcons (2-16) a 3-for-4 bat and a double, with Garrett Bleakley and Noah Reimel each with a pair of RBI.
