Bertone’s big bat keys Garnet Valley win
Dominic Bertone had a monster day Monday, belting three hits, two home runs and driving in six runs as Garnet Valley routed Conestoga, 9-2, in a Central League tilt.
Cole Palis collected two hits and two runs scored, and Mike Bechtold twirled a gem, striking out seven and scattering six hits over seven innings for GV (10-4, 9-4).
Also in the Central League:
Marple Newtown 10, Penncrest 0 >> Cameron Mathes hurled a three-hit shutout as the Tigers (11-5, 10-3) lept into a tie with Conestoga atop the Central League standings.
Mathes drove in two runs, Will Johnston doubled and Luke Cantwell tripled for Marple.
Radnor 6, Harriton 3 >> Will Hoysgaard worked five innings of three-hit ball and helped his cause with his first career homer for the Raiders.
Matt Schaefer went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, and Andrew Austen scored twice for the Raiders (7-8, 5-8), with Pat Lofton’s six-out save sealing the win.
Haverford 9, Upper Darby 4 >> Cole Humes doubled and drove in three runs, and Luke Marmer, Drew Fowler and Jack Hallowell scored twice each for the Fords (9-7, 7-7).
Nate Rimel went 4-for-4 with two runs scored for the Royals, and Pat McCloskey drove in two runs.
Lower Merion 5, Ridley 1 >> Greg Kimmel doubled and drove in Ridley’s only run in the seventh, but the Green Raiders were stymied by the host Aces.
In the Catholic League:
Archbishop Carroll 3, Bonner & Prendergast 2 >> Back-to-back hits by Kevin Downs and Trip Shoemaker with two out in the fifth turned into the game-winning runs on an error as the Patriots (4-10, 3-7) nipped their Delco rivals behind six solid innings from Chris Altopiedi.
Rich Melito homered, and James Kelly worked a scoreless seventh for the save.
Tim Dougherty bashed a solo homer, and Danny Shepherd provided an RBI double for the Friars (8-5, 5-4).
Cardinal O’Hara 7, La Salle 2 >> Mike Davis doubled, tripled and drove in three, and Isaiah Hammond set the table with a 4-for-4 day with three runs scored in support of winning pitcher Billy Neill (five hits, seven strikeouts) in a huge win for O’Hara (8-6, 6-4).
In the Ches-Mont League:
Sun Valley 10, Oxford 9 >> Casey Crockett tied the game with a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh, and Ryan Hall scored on an error off the bat of Nick Miller in the eighth for the Vanguards. Christian Bateman (0.77 ERA through 36 innings pitched this season) worked a spotless eighth for the win.
