Perk Valley fights off Methacton rally, wins 3-2
They came awfully close to letting this win slip away.
However, for a team with a penchant of winning dramatically, this game fell right into Perkiomen Valley’s wheelhouse.
Emily Oltman pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and one earned as the Vikings fought off a Methacton rally in the top half of the seventh to come away with a 3-2 victory Monday on the team’s Senior Night.
“I wasn’t really nervous at all,” Oltman said of the dramatic seventh inning. “I have confidence in them (my defense), they always come through when they need to.”
Monday validated the senior pitcher’s words
The Vikings faced a two-on, one-out situation in the top half of the seventh after Aubrey Seal reached base on a hit by pitch followed by Megan Stauffer’s single. Both runners moved over on a wild pitch and passed ball to put runners on second and third for Annalese Olivieri.
The drama was shortlived as Oltman got Olivieri to ground out into a fielder’s choice, PV second baseman Rachel Helverson throwing out Seal at the plate before Ana Bruni recorded the last putout to finish off the 3-2 victory.
“It was an exciting night because it was Senior Night,” Oltman said. “We wanted them, we had a bad taste in our mouths from last time so we wanted to get this win against a good team.”
Bruni finished the game with two hits along with Jordan Sell (single and triple), who scored the eventual game-winning run in the second inning.
Seal finished with a team-high two hits in the loss. Sam Weil-Kaspar finished with the lone RBI, knocking in Olivieri with an RBI single.
