Radnor’s Austen spins a gem, beats Strath Haven
Radnor starter Andrew Austen was in total control as Radnor knocked off sixth-ranked Strath Haven, 4-1, in the Central League.
Austen pitched all seven innings, striking out three and surrendering just two hits. Jack DeShan went 2-3 at the plate for Radnor and drove in a run.
In the Catholic League:
St. Joseph’s Prep 12, Archbishop Carroll 10 >> The Patriots led 10-5 heading into the top of the seventh when the Hawks erupted for seven runs. Greg Martin’s pinch-hit grand slam punctuated the Prep’s comeback.
Carroll’s Nick Altopiedi also went deep in the game as part of his 2-3 day. Nick Argentieri and Kevin Brown each drove in three runs for the Patriots (3-10, 2-7 PCL).
In the Ches-Mont
Sun Valley 7, Avon Grove 2 >> Christian Bateman delivered at the plate and on the mound for the Vanguards (5-9). The junior hurler struck our 12 and surrendered zero earned runs in a complete game. Bateman also went 4-5 with a triple and a double, driving in two to help his own cause. Vinnie Carter collected two hits, while Spiro Hartas went 2-3 with a double for Sun Valley.
In nonleague action:
Church Farm 13, Christian Academy 10 >> Senior Eric Diaz blasted a three-run triple in a six-run, seventh-inning outburst for the Griffins.
Nick Scott had two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for TCA. Jake Sitkowski added two hits, two runs scored and one RBI, but seven errors, eight walks and three hit batters doomed the Crusaders.
