Armstrong, Ward send Penncrest past Ridley
Dillon Armstrong pitched five strong innings with six strikeouts and Devlin Ward was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI as Penncrest defeated Ridley, 5-2, in a Central League baseball game Saturday.
Anthony Costales, Colin Birzes and Armstrong each collected an RBI for the Lions. Liam Frank pitched two innings to record the save.
Ed Bleacher had two base knocks and Nick Deprinzio drove in two runs for the Green Raiders.
In nonleague action:
Interboro 9, Bonner & Prendergast 0 >> Ronnie Bailey scattered five hits and fanned two in a complete-game performance. The undefeated Bucs (10-0) gave Bailey plenty of run support, led by Brady DiGiacomo, who went 3 for 3 with four runs scored and four stolen bases.
Jeff Finley cleared the bags with a double in the bottom of the fifth to break the game open. He was 2 for 2 with five RBIs.
C.J. Cardell (three runs) and Billy Ketler (three RBIs) each went 2 for 3 with a double.
Radnor 8, Shipley 6 >> The Raiders plated six runs in the top of the first, but eventually coughed up the lead. In the top of the sixth, they regained the lead for good when Sean Mullarkey scored the go-ahead run on an infield error. The freshman was 2 for 3 at the dish.
Ross Ebersole smacked a three-run triple in the first and Brad Henkin registered his first varsity save.
Haverford 13, Glen Mills 0 >> The Fords relied on a pitching by committee approach to blank the Battlin’ Bulls. Mike Garcia hurled the first two innings, giving up no hits while striking out two, to record the win. Nolan Buska, Jake McClelland and Corey Hunt were lights out in relief.
Haverford School 8, Conestoga 4 >> Bryan Hyland’s second home run of the day put the Fords in the driver’s seat in the sixth inning. The Fords scored six unanswered runs over the final two frames.
Before Hyland’s bomb, Justin Meyer blasted a three-run dinger for Haverford in the fifth to even the score. David Hogarth’s bloop double in the sixth knocked in two.
Perkiomen School 6, Episcopal Academy 1 >> The Churchmen had a tough time in the field, committing five errors en route to a loss in Game 1 of a doubleheader. Alex Laughlin doubled and walked.
Perkiomen School 8, Episcopal Academy 7 >> Seven errors plagued the Churchmen in Game 2. Perkiomen scored three runs in each of the first two innings and led, 8-0, before the host Churchmen mounted a valiant comeback attempt. They scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn’t push across the equalizer.
AJ Lotsis went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored, O’Reilly went 2 for 3 with a run scored, McLaughlin added two hits and a pair of RBIs, and Kyle Virbitsky scored twice in the loss.
